Long time lurker, and GSO resident surfaces.
Yes, it's a virus. Call 272-2999 (Computer Consignment), ask for Steve. Unhook the CPU and take only it to his shop. You'll get it back in 24-36 hours with the problem fixed and instruction on how not to let it happen again. 50-75 bucks depending on how hard it is to get at. Cheap for a Tar Heel and a barrister................ ![]() BTW, if you are networked the problem may have spread........... wrote in message ... hey, i am being bombarded by popups hawking "spyware protect 2009 alert" purporting to warn me of an "infiltration alert", asking me to click on "yes" to "block this attack", and accompanied by a "windows security alert" that contains grammatical errors. anybody know how to deal with this? in trouble in the old north state wayno |

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conficker: The origin of the name Conficker is thought to be a portmanteau of the term "configure" with German word Ficker, which means "****er." I recommend crushing your computer, liquidating your assets, contriving a new identity, and moving overseas. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

Reminds me of a joke... The airline stewardess comes around with the sundae cart and when she comes to a little boy, she says, "How would you like some crushed nuts?" "How would you like some smashed tits?," asks the little boy.... yfitons wayno(anybody know how much folks are getting for turnips nowadays?) About a $1000 a subsidized ton...unfortunately, the Feds then get 80% of your garden, assess a retroactive tax, tell your ag supplier they'll be repaid at 5.3 cents on the dollar, and fire you if you don't agree to merge with a French turnip producer...IOW, if you think your computer has been, um, conficked, you ain't seen nuthin' yet... Start using your caps key. And buy a Mac. Problem solved. -- Ken Fortenberry i'd rather wear blue and orange underwear and apologize to beancounter than follow either suggestion. yfitons wayno Download AVG (free) and it will trap any virus and isolate it for you to delete. Excellent bit of software. Avast Anti-virus is free also. I quit using AVG because I was having trouble with the automatic updates on my laptop. I still use it on one desktop. It's a very good anti-virus though. If you're using Firefox you might try Adblock Plus. It's an add on. I also use Super Antispyware also free. Jim -- |
