Believe me, I walk the appropriate walk, wherever I am, and I do realize

I hope there are 2 or 3 mystical beautiful golf movies for every

We have lived in a remarkable age... We have seen the demise of the
cowboy while the prairies were abundant.

The fields we hunted in, the lakes and ponds we swan in are now paved over
shopping malls.

We see the parks we used to take for granted now taking reservations all
summer long.

The poor keep ****in', the immigrants keep ****in' and comin' and no one
talks about sustainable life for our planet. Oh maybe sustainable if you
like Soylent Green...

We are the last of our kind, no wires plugged into our head, no
micro-chips in our sold reporting to 'Clave Central" or Carnivore if you
will.....

What was it Red Cloud sad? Something like, 'The white men have won. But
as long as I have a spear and horse I'm going to live like an Indian?"

.....okay..RDean, pull me out of the titty bar in the Quarter and let me
have another beer....

sold=soul
sad=said

I'll confess that I'm ok with this if it means less people pressuring
streams. I do just hope it's mostly the assholes who are losing their
shops. There are plenty of them running stores, that's for sure.

That all may be well and true, but that's not the point I was making. I'd offer
that while their "asshole"-ness may be up for discussion, their, um,
dumbass-ness, not so much...

Hm.......pass on the "believe me" part.......just on principle. As
for walking "the appropriate walk" (hee hee), uh huh, we've all heard
that talk talked before. Selfish? Well, yeah, we'll take that on
faith. And, "happier with fewer folks flyfishing?.......we ALL know
exactly one guaranteed way for you to ensure that the number of folks
flyfishing is reduced by exactly one. Let's see you walk THAT walk,
eh sparky?

Like,

Ever stop to wonder what 2 or 3 mystical beautiful golf courses can do
to a trout stream?

g.
who has heard faint mutterings about a planet populated (at least in
part) and run by adults.......but, given the limitations of "modern"
transportation, despairs of ever visiting it.

Uh-huh...regardless of the worldly education that you have convinced yourself
you've managed to eke out for yourself, thus far, you're stupid...

Well, it's certainly true that I'm no nukuler mixologist. And I can
hardly deny that I'm somewhat lacking in the fine points of gatorade
wader design.

Sheesh,

Indeed.....that is scarcely arguable.

Which direction?

I haven't been in a fly shop in a few years now. Of course, I'm not fishing
near as much as I used to either, but the annual trek to the fly fishing
show seems to keep me in supply.

Every fly shop I've been to in Silicon Valley has been a yuppie haven
for A River Runs Through It aficionados. They sell more in clothing and
designer umbrella stands and hand carved walking sticks than they do fly
fishing gear.

Well the Orvis shop on El Camino and Embarcadero in Palo Alto did not
close. It just moved to Santana Row.

I have caught really beautiful (and small) wild trout in Silicon
Valley. But not what I would call terribly interesting fishing other
than the seemingly miraculous existence of it. Heard good things
about striper fishing in San Luis reservoir about an hours from here
but never actually made the trip. I think there probably is quite
good surf fishing that is untapped and secretive. But I've got no
time to fish these days so don't much matter either way.

B&G Sporting in Westfield.
Our annual trip to the show, plus a little mail order usually takes
care of my needs.
Have you been getting out at all? The high water this year, plus a
couple of situations earlier in the season has limited my trips this
year as well.
Swift is still running at +/- 200 CFS, but with the new valve, most of
it is coming from the bottom, so the temp is under 60 deg, fishing is
slow.
All that said, I caught my best fish of the year, 21", on a streamer
near the "secret spot" on Monday.
