You're probably right - what the Hell am I doing here :-)

Laughter a bunch You are here, Bill, to have fun.

Joanne is sitting next to me -- sees your name and the graigroad.demon
-- and says "Hi". Her 56 birthday was yesterday and we are having a
partying in the lodge tonight, including carrot cake and champagne
(French, no less). She is enjoying her retirement as I am too.

Dave

Say Shwd mae from me - it means How 's it going Joanne.

BTW the graigroad.demon.co.uk will disappear in a week or two - I'll
let you know my new addy when it happens.

Oh I nearly forgot "Penblwydd hapus Joanne" Happy birthday Joanne.

laughter Of course I couldn't pronounce it correctly, but I tried.
And she said, "Oh, goodness. Thank you."

We had dinner, finished off a very good bottle of champagne (have one
left), and then went out on the lawn with all the outside lights off
and looked at Jupiter and its four moons all aligned in the southern
sky. Quite the sight through Whitt's automatic tracking telescope.
The heavens were bright and clear here in northern Maine tonight.
Joanne spotted something coming at us out of the northwest and we are
guessing it was the space station. Elongated, bright, and very fast
moving towards the southeast and then it disappeared, fading into
nothing. Quite the sight. It could have been the champagne, but
non-drinkers saw it and ewwwed and ahhhhhed along with the rest of us.
Neat!

Thirty minutes to lights out.

A number of years ago I showed a bait fisherman how to
quickly take his limit. I gathered a handful of small pepples
(pellets) and threw them in the water. I told the guy to cast him
worm into the middle of the pepple pattern. He did and immediately
caught a 12 inch rainbow. Surprise, surprise. The hatchery fish
were used to being fed with pellets thrown (like my pepples). I
erred in showing this to this guy because the next time I fished this
water (White's Pond in Concord, MA), two bait fishermen were doing
the pepple trick. I didn't tell the first guy that it works only
after the stocking truck has deposited its cargo.

Dave

I am still chuckling about this ever after reading it yesterday.
You do realize that several stocker probably pounced on those
pebbles as well as the worm.

Reality (or close): (planted trout): "Debris again!" Gills
back. Pa-too-ee. "Oh look! A worm!" Elapse time 3/4 of
a second.

My over active imagination: (planted trout): "The free dog food
from the heavens has returned! Yippee! Yuk! Debris again!"
Gills back. "Tell me it isn't so! Tell me it isn't so!"
Pa-too-ee. "What's a doggie anyway? I think I see one staring
at me from the bank. Nice hat doggie. Oh look! A worm!"
Elapse time 3/4 of a second.

I have been chuckling on and off ever since. You are the man!

Ha, good one, never heard that before. And thanks for taking my joke

Notice all the posts had a d;o) on them. d;o)

Fishing is great. Took some nice brook trout and salmon today, but
strangely all the trout were females. I haven't heard of anyone taking
a male all week. Very strange.

A friend came up from Littleton, Mass. Only could spend a day, but he
took some nice fish. We got at the dam early this morning and found a
guide with two sports parked at two good spots. We took a so-so spot
and I gave Chip one of Harry's Killer Caddis. I showed Chip the rising
trout out about 40 feet, and on his second cast he hooked into a 15
inch brookie, landing and releasing it safely. I looked over at the
guide to see his reaction - it wasn't good. Five minutes later Chip
had landed another brookie and a small salmon on the caddis. The guide
poked his sport and they moved. He got his other sport and they left.
Gee, was it something we said? d;o)

Whit and I took Chip down to South Arm at 4:30. He'll be back. He
fell in love with the cabin, food, and especially the fishing.

A twenty-one inch brook trout was taken just before lunch today by one
of the camp's guests. Took a nymph - PT I think. The guy had a hard
time landing the fish. I should have gone over and helped him net it,
but it would have meant climbing over lots of rocks, then climbing over
more rocks to get to him. He managed w/out me, but it took him a long
time (10 minutes).

Meatloaf with red wine sauce for dinner. More champagne too. You and
Rachel must come up.

Well, at least he landed it. Some folks never got the chance. :-)

thanks dave...i think she would like it...she's "retired" now, so only
my schedule and gia's govern her travel now. her doctor made her quit
working with me. too stressful. g i miss her at the office, but i
think it's been better for her health. gia likes her being at home too.

i hope to get back to the rapid, and it would be terrific if rachel
could come along.

Google the lyrics for "Friggin' in the Riggin'," the Sex Pistols' version - one
of, if not the, most readily-available and "famous" versions of "Good Ship
Venus." Or if you're really into such stuff, look for an compilation called
"Rogue's Gallery" - it has a version by Loudon Wainwright III, as well as a
whole bunch of other stuff by folks like Brian Ferry, Sting, Bono, Rufus
Wainwright. You'll either be amazed or confused...

The more-or-less "standard" verse above is:

"The cabin boy was Kipper,
He was a dirty nipper,
He packed his ass with broken glass,
And circumcised the skipper..."

R
