Got a feeling Frank has looked at it from the top and bottom.....What kind of nymphs are down there Frankie...... I sometimes camp at the foot of Norfork Dam (the COE campground) and fish the N. Fork River, on the way to or from Mt. View AR for music makin'. Yes there are trout. Yes, many are HUGE. No, it doesn't resemble trout fishing in the Rockies, where I spent most of my life until ten years ago. But, it is what we have and, unless you want to float some of the rivers, it is all we got. Then there is the "strike indicator". Somewhere, when I was wandering the world in Asia and the Pacific, these little pink silly putty thingies became all the rage for nymph fishing. Well.......it looks like bobber fishing to me. So........I have decided to take advantage of new innovations and new realities. I will be going out, Friday, on a trip to look at the leaves along the Ohio River from the Mississippi up to about Covington KY, camping as close to the river as possible. We will spend the weekend at the N Fork, with me trying out a new system: Ultra light spinning rig, with clear plastic bubble, about three ft. of 2 lb. line, a BB shot, and a #22 or so zebra, sow bug, or similar. That is the "spinning-bubble-fly" rig I used as a kid on mountain lakes in Wyoming back in the 50's. Hey.......if it works, it works. I will let you know. cheers oz, who wades in jeans and $20 hip boots. |
