People voted your guys out because your team could not manage their way out of a paper bag, not a one of them had a kid at risk, and they could not keep their hands out of the till, or their toes from a- tappen in public restrooms. Now your heckling is about all your impotent ideology has left in its worn out Gucci bag. Let's talk about something you might actually know about. How about Abramoff (now in prison) and the Mississippi Casino money that funded some of those Christian freako shenanigans, Delay's drunk and prostitute money bag, etc Wasn't some of that dirty money laundered thru Grover Norquist's Hamas and Hezbollah-loving consulting company? You must have heard something on the whackjob/Tory street about the Justice Department's investigations? Dave |

Dave If you are intent on becoming the left nut equivalent of Beancounter on the right, you are off to a fine start!! Speaking as a realist, and a long-time worker/contributor to the Dems, the main thing going for them at the minute is the profusion of nutcase, litmus-test, right-wing Repubs destined to eliminate any functional two-party system. Thus far, Obama has been badly hampered by those who expected things from him that weren't realistic, and if the list of folks that separate the Idea of Obama from the Reality of Obama grows, he could well be beatable by a functional opponent. As I've stated, we a less than a year into the process, and his intentions and intellect are sound, so my hopes are high that he will get some traction. The LAST thing progressives need is an outpouring of fruitcake spews like Dave is treating us to above. Tom |

Dave Follow the Money The big players in MS casinos are Harrah's and MGM Mirage (with the Hard Rock nipping at the heels, even with Premier's Chapter 11, and Penn National/Hollywood Casinos - NASDAQ-listed corp. - bringing up the rear in Hancock Co.). I really didn't follow the minutiae of the whole Abramoff thing, but as I understand it, he was a pretty bi-partisan crook, mainly dealing with the "Indian" casino attempts outside of MS. While the Choctaws have their place up in Philadelphia, MS, they aren't anywhere near Harrah's and MGM in terms of being "big players." Hell, they tried to build a ****-ant little place on some land they bought near, but not on, the coast in Jackson County (no casinos in the county) and the locals shut them down, just as they had all other attempts by others. And FWIW, the attempt was a pretty ****-poor one, as far as attempting to win over the community. And no, "racism" played very little part in it, if any at all. They have a number of successful businesses in Jackson Co., but they just tried to pull several fast ones, including trying to force a casino where none from anyone was wanted by the community, and did it without any "help" from anyone outside the Tribe and its leaders. If they had, for example, tried to open a non-gaming business on the land and add to the community, they would have been welcomed with open arms, as they have been on other ventures. And AFAIK, the "Indians" don't have anywhere near the bucks to go into Biloxi/Harrison County as they have up in Philadelphia (MS), or even Gulfport (which **** in its own messkit casinos in the aftermath of Katrina) or Hancock County, nor have I heard about any serious attempts from them on that front. And being bestest buddies with every pol and lobbyist, of every political or apolitical bent, from Abramoff to Obama would not change that. It's only an educated guess, but I'd say it would take at least $300 mil in cash - in hand - to really make a serious play - land costs alone are probably several hundred - yep, several hundred - times higher, coast vs. Neshoba County. The Choctaw's "River Resort" has faced economic problems, and the "Margaritaville" (Harrah's) is in all-but-stopped mode. IAC, the Choctaws (as an organization) are fairly sophisticated, knowledgeable businesspeople, and they have tried to gain advantages (and skirt/ignore regs, ala the Jackson County attempt) using their "Indian" status, and done so without help from Abramoff or anyone else. Abramoff may have screwed them, but I can tell you, they got involved with him eyes-open, and whatever they did, they did as, er, "aggressive business." While I don't universally subscribe to the old saying about not being able to cheat an honest man, in the case, it is applicable. HTH, R |

Tom, you said . . . They call themselves "the Family," and they call their objective "dominion." Their principal leader currently is Dr. Dobson, and their main secretariat is "Focus on the Family" based in Colorado. If you don't think they are influential you were not paying attention during the Florida recount debacle, internal R struggles, or the more recent "Teaparty" demos. Dave |
