And if you lose the other one, you'll be a Progressive (aka, socialist, communist). ooh, someone's spending his retirement years listening to Glenn Beck(the only moron I know of with this definition). Tom No, someone's spending his retirement years fishing, exploring the mountains, and enjoying life without very much TV. But, there is Netflix. And Hulu on the computer. Didn't know you watched those right wing terrorist tv shows. Dave |

Still, it seems like whenver anyone pops up in my net discussions equating the word Progressive(a movement started by Teddy Roosevelt) with communism or naziism, it always seems to come back to Beck and his goofy rantings. Enjoy the fishing and mountains! Tom |

Enjoy the fishing and mountains! Tom Hmmmmm. I don't know about the Beck thingy, but Fortenberry has called himself a progressive for as long as I can remember, and his ideas are very socialistic/communistic. I use progressive in that sense - Fortenberry is a progressive, not a liberal. Listen to music? Have you tried Pandora.com? I have several artists set up on it and it is always on. Brubeck/Mulligan/Davis/Gilberto, etc. There's another one that Jo uses, but can remember off hand what it is. She's taking a friend to the doc today. I'm stuck at home doing chores, watching the birds and deer, and trying to control Jenny from disturbing them. Dave |

Astrud is always a little off-key, off-syncopation, uncertain of English lyrics, thoroughly amateurish, and natively adorable in her voice and phrasing. The sets they did with Stan Getz are inspired. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

I wonder if you guys might like Gilberto Gil? Not really the same kind of music but great Brazilian music none the less. One of my favorite Brazilian artist is Roberta Miranda. I love the sound of her voice. My wife can't stand her. Says her lyrics are hokey. I can't understand a word she says anyway. I don't speak Portuguese. I just like her voice and music. Truth be told, I seldom pay much attention to lyrics anyway. My daughter thinks that's why I like opera. Russell |

Brubeck is an icon of progressive jazz. splork Joćo Gilberto or Astrud Gilberto? Both! Astrud's daughter is now singing and she is better than her mother. First heard her at a fishing lodge during dinner. She has several albums now. I prefer Astrud, but Joćo is great, too. Getz/Gilberto. A classic. An earlier classic was Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66. Joanne and I enjoyed Rio when we went to a IEEE conference in 84. We went to samba clubs every night about 10 and would stay until 1 or 2 in the morning listening and dancing. Great stuff. Dave |
