Unless of course roff is a condition similar to alzheimers, it gets worse with age and I sure ain't gettin any younger. To start with a clean slate, apologies to those who I might have ****ed off in the past and might do so again in the future. Lessee, went all the way to California to visit my Navy son, and on the last day there fell and broke my ankle. This afforded a nearly $2000 visit to the local emergency room (this small Coast Guard base only has a clinic, no MD) The best part was instead of returning on AMTRAK as ticketed, I got to fly home on SWA with curb to curb wheel chair service, board first even before the little kids, heck, even TSA was a pleasant experience. Going to WallyWorld shopping has been fun too, riding in the electric cart it's amazing how many ladies offer to help retrieve something from the shelf, sporting a "cripple" sticker in the windshield gets me hassle free parking too. I'm seriously considering breaking the other ankle just so I can drag this fun out a little longer. And, oh yeah, turned 77 last month so you whippersnappers show a little respect. Sore ankle and all, I put new tires on the boat trailer, repaired a leaky pontoon on the WaterSkeeter and took the Merc in for a tune-up. The ice is out here so it won't be long before I begin pestering the local bluegills and bass. Planning a trip to Maine this summer to float the Androscoggin with my fishin' bud up there, gonna rip some smallmouth lips. OK, consider yourselves caught up whether you wanted it or not. Frank Church Fremont, Indiana Welcome back Frank and hope the ankle heals well for you. Bill Thanks Bill, the fracture is healed but the soft tissue still is a little sore...started walking on the treadmill to toughen things up down there. Been settin on my arse all winter so definitely need the excersize. Frank Sr |

Be careful about losing any more brain cells, at your age you ain't got but two of them and if you lose one you'll become a Republican. ;-) Well sheeit Kenny, been one of them most of my life, it's a tough job but somebody has to do it. ;-) Frank Sr |

Enjoy the bass fishing, give my best wishes to your buddy up there, and then step back a few paces so he doesn't inadvertently spew on youg(Dave hates me, for purely ideological reasons). Be well, Frank! Tom p.s No tying update? Nah, Dave's a pretty easy going guy Tom, and regularly beats my butt at catching the most/biggest bass. (with one or two exceptions) Frank Sr |

: Glad to see you back Dad. Hmm, broke the ankle? Who were you kicking? Frank Reid Actually Frank, my son and I were leaving to drive over to the coast from the Coast Guard base where he's stationed, and just do a little sight- seeing. I halfway missed the last step on the stairs leading to the parking lot and went down like a ton of bricks. He thought I'd had another heart attack and I couldn't speak at that moment after having the breath knocked out of me. We eventually got it sorted out and made it to the Petaluma Hospital emergency room. Turns out later that along with the ankle being fractured, landing on my right arm across my chest fractured a rib as well. A side note, LCDR Robert Church retires with 20 yrs active duty from the US Navy. Very proud dad here and wonder where the hell the last 20 years went? Frank Sr |

Astrud is always a little off-key, off-syncopation, uncertain of English lyrics, thoroughly amateurish, and natively adorable in her voice and phrasing. The sets they did with Stan Getz are inspired. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

I wonder if you guys might like Gilberto Gil? Not really the same kind of music but great Brazilian music none the less. One of my favorite Brazilian artist is Roberta Miranda. I love the sound of her voice. My wife can't stand her. Says her lyrics are hokey. I can't understand a word she says anyway. I don't speak Portuguese. I just like her voice and music. Truth be told, I seldom pay much attention to lyrics anyway. My daughter thinks that's why I like opera. Russell |

Try Susannah McCorkle. She's an Anglo who sang Brazilian. She died a tragic suicide. If lyrics aren't your cup of tea you might not like her, but I do. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

She was one of the World's most incredible voices. The language is hard and the scales etc are non-Western, but she was amazing in range, endurance etc etc. She would sing large portions of the Koran, may its peace be upon you. Youtube has a few things by her. http://almashriq.hiof.no/egypt/700/780/umKoulthoum/ Dave |

Getz/Gilberto. A classic. An earlier classic was Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66. Joanne and I enjoyed Rio when we went to a IEEE conference in 84. We went to samba clubs every night about 10 and would stay until 1 or 2 in the morning listening and dancing. Great stuff. Dave |
