João Gilberto or Astrud Gilberto?

Both! Astrud's daughter is now singing and she is better than her
mother. First heard her at a fishing lodge during dinner. She has
several albums now.

I prefer Astrud, but João is great, too. Astrud is always a little
off-key, off-syncopation, uncertain of English lyrics, thoroughly
amateurish, and natively adorable in her voice and phrasing.

The sets they did with Stan Getz are inspired.

Getz/Gilberto. A classic. An earlier classic was Sergio Mendez and
Brazil 66. Joanne and I enjoyed Rio when we went to a IEEE conference
in 84. We went to samba clubs every night about 10 and would stay
until 1 or 2 in the morning listening and dancing. Great stuff.
