João Gilberto or Astrud Gilberto? I prefer Astrud, but João is great,
too. Astrud is always a little off-key, off-syncopation, uncertain of
English lyrics, thoroughly amateurish, and natively adorable in her
voice and phrasing.

The sets they did with Stan Getz are inspired.


I wonder if you guys might like Gilberto Gil? Not really the same kind
of music but great Brazilian music none the less.

One of my favorite Brazilian artist is Roberta Miranda. I love the sound
of her voice. My wife can't stand her. Says her lyrics are hokey. I
can't understand a word she says anyway. I don't speak Portuguese. I
just like her voice and music. Truth be told, I seldom pay much
attention to lyrics anyway. My daughter thinks that's why I like opera.

It may have been Miranda who I heard on sat radio not too long ago.
There are several "Astrud-like" performers out there. Astrud's
daughter (Bebe?) has several albums and is much better than her mom.
Great music nonetheless. I'll have to look into Miranda. Thanks for

Try Susannah McCorkle. She's an Anglo who sang Brazilian. She died a
tragic suicide. If lyrics aren't your cup of tea you might not like
her, but I do.

McCorkle and Waters of March. Fantastic tune. I didn't know she had
killed herself. Tragic indeed. She was a great artist, although I
presently don't have any of her recordings.

For the Pirate: Thanks for the info. Generally, my listening falls into two
catagories. If used for background, I have satellite radio feed into stereo
via DAC to upgrade sound quality. For serious listening, vinyl still rules,
although, with a new universal player that does DVD-A and SACD, the little
discs get more play than they once did. If it was up to me, I would probably
not even own a TV. But, then, my wife would probably do me in......

I hear this frequently from serious (and obviously knowledgeable)
audiophiles. I'm old enough to be enough of a luddite to be tempted
to believe them but.....when queried their responses smell an awful

Lessee, went all the way to California to visit my Navy son, and on the
last day there fell and broke my ankle. This afforded a nearly $2000
visit to the local emergency room (this small Coast Guard base only has a
clinic, no MD) The best part was instead of returning on AMTRAK as
ticketed, I got to fly home on SWA with curb to curb wheel chair service,
board first even before the little kids, heck, even TSA was a pleasant
experience. Going to WallyWorld shopping has been fun too, riding in the
electric cart it's amazing how many ladies offer to help retrieve
something from the shelf, sporting a "cripple" sticker in the windshield
gets me hassle free parking too. I'm seriously considering breaking the
other ankle just so I can drag this fun out a little longer. And, oh
yeah, turned 77 last month so you whippersnappers show a little respect.
Sore ankle and all, I put new tires on the boat trailer, repaired a leaky
pontoon on the WaterSkeeter and took the Merc in for a tune-up. The ice
is out here so it won't be long before I begin pestering the local
bluegills and bass. Planning a trip to Maine this summer to float the
Androscoggin with my fishin' bud up there, gonna rip some smallmouth
lips. OK, consider yourselves caught up whether you wanted it or not.

Thanks R...to answer your question, I don't know what Frank Jr's problem
is trying to stay in one piece, but my excuse is flying too high too
often too long without enuf oxygen. That's my story and I'm sticking to
it.
