As an aside:
The Dept of Defense is planning on moving 8,000 Marines and their families. During Vietnam, Anderson AFB on the north coast of Guam held 18,000 people. Throw in another 700 at NavComStaGuam, and another 1000 at the Naval Base in Apra, plus the Naval Weapons Depot and you had more than 4000 Americans on the island. And, guess what? It didn't tip over. It didn't even sink a millimeter. Imagine that. |

Make that more than 20,000 Americans instead of 4,000.

There were more Americans on Guam during Vietnam than there now will be. Google maps Guam and look at all the housing that used to be in the north-east part of the island. You can still see the "Elephant Cage" (Wollenweber Circular Display Antenna). It's the big round thing between Anderson and the west coast. Dave |

Dave Uh Dave, they're all Americans on Guam. Are you sure? I mean, a trusting sort might think they are "Americans," but are they real, good ol' fashioned _AMERICAN_ "Americans"...? I mean, before ya know it, some of them Peruvians, Hondurans, and GOD FORBID, MEXICANS are liable to sneak in on ya... HTH, R ....and whoo-doggies, if them AFRICAN-"Americans" manage to get in, well...there goes the Guamihood.... Frank Reid |

But when I was there ten thousand years ago, everyone referred to the locals as "Guamanians". It wasn't a racial slur - they referred to themselves that way. It is now a big tourist stop-over for wealthy Japanese. When I was there in '57, there were still Japanese soldiers left over from WWII. One turned himself in just before I arrived. Nice place....... to visit. |

Louie Ya know, anything is possible, but this guy says he didn't really think that Guam would literally "tip over." I gotta say, I tend to believe him...and he is at least moderately well-educated...so I'm not sure if it's because he is a lawyer or in spite of it, but either way, I'd say he has one more "oops" to go before condemnation. FWIW, he DID claim that if Joe Wilson wasn't punished for his "you lie!" outburst, the KKK would soon take over and be running the halls of Congress in full (or king size, as the case might be) bedsheet regalia...that was one of his three... And I gotta say, I'm not all that sure myself as to why Guam needs all these extra Marines, American or otherwise...I mean, what, are the Micronesians really THAT big a threat...and if the news reports are to be believed, WW2 is pretty much over...
