Your penalty is the deduction of the first 2 points of your Kreh Factor. *I can't really figure what mine is. I know several people who have met Lefty, but I never did. *Not surprisingly, I never tried to figure the number, and don't really care. OK, you got me. He did pitch two innings in 1940 against Detroit (according to Wikipedia), but he was long-since retired before I met him, and I actually didn't even know he was such a legendary baseball player at the time...I thought he was some mainline player who happened to be a great outdoorsman. But yeah, I had that entirely wrong....must have been thinking of Babe Ruth. --riverman |

wrote: What's your "Kreh Factor?" Fishing, mine is a two (I've fished with someone that has fished with Lefty). On fly tying, mine is a one (I've tied with Lefty). Frank Reid I'm not sure. I know this guy, Dan, whose wife's cousin, coincidentally, also Dan, knows a guy, John, who is an acquaintance of this guy - by a strange twist of fate is called Bernard (is that spooky or what?) - who works at a used book store, so I called the guy I know and got him to ask his wife her cousin's phone number, so I called him and got the acquaintance's number, from whom I got the book store guy's number. I called Bernard and asked him if he had now, or had ever had, any of the Lefty's books. I admit, my hopes were a little dashed when he said, "Who?," but I realize he probably doesn't care much about Kreh Factors. And I gotta admit, I sorta understand that position. So I explained the situation. I didn't feel any better when his first post-explanation question of me was to ask who these two "Dan" characters were again. So I explained further. He seemed like a decent guy, willing to help out his fellow man, so he offered to check his records. HOT DAMN!, I thought, we're getting close now, boy. And sure enough, it appears that in 2008, they did have a copy of "Presenting the Fly." Since he was being so helpful, I asked if he remembered if it was he who took the copy in or possibly shelved it. He said that as a matter of fact, the record indicated that he did, in fact, buy that lot of books. BINGO! SUCCESS IS MINE! I HAVE A KREH FACTOR!! And you know, it's strange. I didn't think I'd care much...well, as long as I'm admitting stuff, I guess I didn't care much...but anyhoo, I will say that I did feel a little twinge of satisfaction - you know, like that special feeling one gets when they successfully pour themselves a cup of coffee without injury or something. So to recap, I know a guy whose wife's cousin knows a guy who knows a guy who works in a bookstore that once not only bought a used copy of one of Lefty's books, but he himself _handled_ it, too! I mean, holymoly, I thought, my Kreh Factor has just got to be wa-a-a-a-y up there! Go for the brass ring, I thought. So I emailed him a picture I had scanned in of Lefty, Flip Pallot, myself and a couple of other folks in the Keys or Bahamas or someplace and asked if he recognized the older guy - maybe he had come into the shop or something. Well, that brought no joy. He said he thought he had seen the big guy on the right at a party or something, but didn't recognize ANY of the others. Well, ****...he recognized me! Great. My RDean factor is, well, I guess, what, ten bizillion or something? Is that how this stuff works? I mean, it's like bottles of booze, titties and unbendy, un-oil-canned expedition canoes - the bigger, the better, right? Well, don't worry - I'm planning on taking all of next week to see just how big I can get my Kreh Factor - I'll have it so high it'll give two friggin' Sherpas and four Peruvians altitude sickness!
