Arrived via one of the WP's daily emails. No info as far as FFing, but it does show the relative ease of getting to Cuba legally (and taking, ala Wayne, "assistants," etc.) and offers a slight insight into what to expect if going by private watercraft. Not offering any advice here, but I were Louie, Steve, et al, and I had any interest in going to Cuba, I might investigate and find any number of legal means to go and do it before it is "opened up," and therefore, ****ed up, any further - YMMV, pardon the pun. IIRC, Steve wrote at least one piece for a magazine and I'm guessing Louie could get some assignment from some car magazine (hell, in both cases, you might even be able to write the damned thing off...). I'm not going to say, in a public forum, that it is all pretty much pretext that no one really cares about anymore, from an official standpoint, but I will point out that the author of the above-cited link managed to get 6 people and a sailboat into Cuba, legally, for what, 10 days-2 weeks, all for a few hundred words of "puff piece" traveloguery. I mean, does it really take 5 adults and a child several days to inform the world via a coupla-three sentences such important and surprising info as the ladies' henhouse at Hemingway isn't on par with that at the Savoy, that most experienced sailors aren't going to confuse the marina with ****ing Newport and that one can buy rum in Cuba? Basically, some folks wanted to sail to Cuba and found a, ahem, valid and legit reason.,,I'll leave pointed public assessment of the merits of the resulting article to others. TC, R And for the record, I'm in no way suggesting anyone break any law(s), offering tips on how to do so should anyone decide to do so, or any other advice per se...I'm merely making observations. |
