I am looking for a jacket to wear over my waders when steelhead fishing
on the feather (especially during the rain). What are people's recommendations? (I am not going to buy a simms or orvis). Cabella has a jacket for $45 (not breathable) Pacific fly group has the ultimate rain jacket which a dealer friend can get me for about $90 (I think) made of Hipora which is breathable |

Save the money off the brand names and buy a kayaking jacket - big pockets,
breathable, watertight neoprene cuffs and waistband, and short. Most boating stores, even Sportmart, carry them for ~$45 -- flyline "Work consists of whatever a body is obliged to do, and Play consists of whatever a body is not obliged to do." - Mark Twain "steve sullivan" wrote in message ... Lately I've been wearing a Patagonia kayaking jacket that I bought on sale because it was being discontinued. The nice thing about it is that it has a neoprene/velcro neck cuff. This is a great body temperature control feature. I find that it allows me to keep warm without resorting to as many layers. No zipper in front though. No pockets except one mesh pocket in the chest. If price was your reason for avoiding Simms, check around a bit for the old version of their jacket. They've come out with a new one, and the shops in Navajo Dam were selling the old ones at a nice discount. I have one with at least 6 pockets, and use it as my winter Steelhead vest. Breathable is so much better than the cheap coated ones that you should look at the better ones. Chas remove fly fish to reply http://home.comcast.net/~chas.wade/w...ome.html-.html |

I recommend jackets for SKI .
They change their models season by season. You can get bargain-basement prices on clearance items. Old fashion ski wear : 1 year or 2 year before model is sold very cheap & perfect about waterproof & cold protection . Even old fashion model is made of breathable cloth : Gore-Tex or so. I have a LL Bean that I think the world of. It is breathable, has a mesh
lining, two large pockets for fly boxes, and is very durable. I Have used it in heavy rains in Oregon, and came through dry as can be. The zipper started to stick on my original jacket, and they replaced it with no questions asked. It sells for about $100. "D.N" wrote in message ... I recommend jackets for SKI .
