It's not seemly to describe yourself in such terms ya know.

Hm.......what, '58, maybe '59? That would be about.....um.....second grade,
I think.

From the mouths of babes???

or if you prefer a more direct response - a pompous ass accusing someone
else of pomposity is pretty laughable.

And what has this got to do with fishing?

Nothing

Well, Linda Adell was most certainly a babe.....back in those days.....might
have been the first girl I ever kissed too. If memory serves, I enjoyed it
more than she did......well, some things never change, I guess. Anyway,
last time I saw her, she was still pretty much a babe.....married, though,
and apparently happily so......sigh!.

On the other hand, she DID send me an email about a year and a half ago,
after finding my name on classmates.com, and asked me to come to our next
high school class reunion.....um.....well, next summer, I think.

But I don't remember her engaging in any such juvenile playground
taunts........are you sure about this?

or if you prefer a more direct response - a pompous ass accusing someone
else of pomposity is pretty laughable.

On the face of it, that would indeed appear to be the case. But then,
things aren't always what they seem. I guess what I'm trying to say is that
it would depend, at least in part, on how the deed was done. I mean, a
(strictly hypothetical) pompous ass COULD, in theory at least, accuse
someone else of being a pompous ass in such a manner as to cast him or her
self in a light that was something other than, or at least MORE than, merely
laughable, don't you think? Take, for example, a strictly hypothetical
pompous ass who had a certain facility with his (or her, for that matter)
native tongue. Wouldn't it be possible for such an individual to direct the
audience's attention away from his (or her) own pomposity in such a manner
as to make them forget, if only for a moment, who (or what, perhaps) the
locutor is and have them rolling in the aisles over the plight of the
hapless target of his/her scorn, instead? I think so. Don't you?

And what has this got to do with fishing?

Damn, I wish I'd said tha........hey.....wait a minute!

Nothing

Ah, well, in that case I think we should both shun it (along with all other
TRUE ROFFians) and concentrate our efforts and attention on purely
piscatorial matters.

Your turn.

Well you can fools some of the people..........

This blows me away Wolfie, never thought you'd actually come out and say
that. I give you credit.

But it's still laughable.

I give you credit.

Cool! HEY, MASTERCARD! SEE THIS?!

But it's still laughable.

Hee, hee, hee.

Anyway, what has all this got to do with fishing?

Your turn.

Well, there's the crux of the issue, at long last. No, actually, there is
no different angle. Past age ten or so increasing gravity and an ever
enlarging prostate rule inexorably. People become habituated to a certain
way of doing things and a particular view of the world. OTHER people, and
places, and situations MUST conform to a weltanschauung that has been
assiduously, if rather haphazardly, built up over a lifetime or there will
be hell to pay. And they don't conform. And there IS hell to pay. And
people who want nothing more than a place where they and others can discuss
fishing, spend a large portion of their time talking about how nobody talks
about fishing. And people who spend a great deal of time in fruitless
****ing contests berate others for engaging in ****ing contests. And people
who find the whole mess demeaning demean themselves by pointing out.....just
this once....how demeaning and fruitless and destructive the whole process
is. And people who demand that others pay attention to them make utter
asses of themselves because they cannot command attention. And people who
have no respect for anyone else....or themselves, for that matter....wax
prolix about anything that vain hope tells them will command the respect
that their demands fail to produce. And it doesn't work. And they know it.
And they do it again anyhow. Et cetera.

And some people talk about fishing......and read what they want to....and
don't read what they don't want to....and comment on what interests
them....and don't comment on those things that don't interest them.....go
figure......crazy ****ers.....I mean, REALLY crazy ****ers.

This is bloody boring,

To each his own. Personally, I find pathology endlessly fascinating.

That's the trouble with democracy.....there isn't much you can do about
sociopaths without resorting to more or less draconian and fundamentally
undemocratic means. It's a ****in' conundrum, it is.

Happy holidays, ya'll!

SNIP

Most enjoyable that! Thanks for the effort!

I donīt care who ****es on who or why, I have been known to indulge myself
more than somewhat in this regard, and indeed may yet again, but if it is
not either at least broadly educational or amusing, it bores me. Some
fishing stuff bores me as well.

Uncertain as I am as to my reasons for being here at all, I am still fairly
certain that it is not to be bored.

By and large, I agree with your once again penetrating, and indeed
penetrant, analysis. It is indeed all a cunning conundrum. One might
maintain that it is in any case a complete waste of time, but then so is
everything basically. You live, you do a lot of stuff, and then you die. It
is probably quite immaterial what the "stuff" is.

Perhaps I should have said "slant" instead of angle, this is not affected by
gravity, ( which I was suprised to hear is increasing, unlike some uncles),
and is also more or less independent of the prostate gland.

I was also surprised to hear that you consider this a democracy. Quite a lot
of it is pure nihilism. At least as far as the practice is concerned. What
political or moral theories the individual practitioners may have is a
matter for very considerable conjecture. Assuming one wished to waste even
more time in such useless speculation..

Whatever. I had my "official moan", and saw my name in lights for a second
or two, just ignore it, and please simply carry on as if nothing untoward
had occurred.

Oh, and a merry Christmas as well!

I beg your pardon. I must, at last, comment.
I have it on fairly good authority that I'm only eccentric, not crazy.
