Nope.

And the meal was utter crap, right ? So, which
restaurant was it ?

See above.

You really don't have a clue as to what this discussion is about, do you?

We were talking about church basement potlucks and four star restaurants,
but only one of us has actually been to both. But hey, if you want to send
me an advance copy of "Wolfgang's Guide to Gourmet Cheese Curds and Baptist
Church Soup Kitchens" I will gladly peruse it.

No, we weren't talking about any such thing. I was talking about good food.
Church basements and popular restaurants are merely two of the places where,
with a bit of luck, one can find it. You, on the other hand, were engaged
in your all too familiar practice of trying to demonstrate some sort of
cultural superiority and, as always, failing miserably.

but only one of us has actually been to both.

Well, you should go to a good restaurant some time when you can afford it.
It is often a memorable experience.

But hey, if you want to send
me an advance copy of "Wolfgang's Guide to Gourmet Cheese Curds and

Baptist
Church Soup Kitchens" I will gladly peruse it.

No such tome extant or forthcoming. You're on your own. Good
luck.....you'll need it.

Went to Heaven on Seven yesterday for lunch right before we drove home.
Small place on the, you guessed it, 7th floor of the Garland Building
in Chicago's Loop. The owner/chefs are third generation Greek coffee
shop owners turned Cajun fanatics. I had the Mardi Gras Etouffee which
was the Etouffee of the Day yesterday. It came with the Gumbo.

And yes, it WAS memorable and even with two Dixie Blackened Voodoos
I could afford it.

Excellent food, no stars. You're just unclear on the concept. I mean,
if you ever showed up at a four star restaurant they'd slap a red vest
on you and put you to work parking cars. (Not that there's anything
wrong with parking cars ;-).

Never heard of it.

O.k., that's got a familiar ring.

The owner/chefs are third generation Greek coffee
shop owners turned Cajun fanatics.

No ****? Genuine third generation Greek coffee shop owner Cajuns? Well,
damn, trumped again! I gotta admit you don't see all that many genuine
third generation Greek coffee shop owner Cajuns running four star
restaurants in the upper midwest anymore.....not THESE days!

I had the Mardi Gras Etouffee which
was the Etouffee of the Day yesterday. It came with the Gumbo.

Etouffee of the day? What the hell is that? Everybody who understands food
knows that etouffee is Heinz ketchup on a Twinkie with creamed okra and a
sparkler!

And yes, it WAS memorable and even with two Dixie Blackened Voodoos

Um.....that's them nekkid country singer babes what had the anti-war tattos
and ****, right? And you had TWO of them?! Wow.

I could afford it.

Whew! I hope, one day, sometime, to be able to excite the sort of
admiration you must surely take for granted.

Excellent food,

I hope to shout!

no stars.

No surprise, you only get those with the Campbell's chicken.

You're just unclear on the concept.

Which one is that? There are so many.

I mean,
if you ever showed up at a four star restaurant they'd slap a red vest
on you and put you to work parking cars. (Not that there's anything
wrong with parking cars ;-).

I've done worse than park cars. Oh, these days it might be a bit of a step
down.......economically. Socially? Well, I've attended claves with the
likes of Asadi, Jeff Miller, Big Dale, Petah, Axelrad, Cleveland, and The
Dark Lord of ROFF his own self......what've I got to lose?

So, anyway, this is what it was all about, huh? All those marches and
demonstrations......all that sign carrying and the liberal arts
education.....all that defending home and hearth with a seven iron....all
that rights of man ****.....all the political involvement.....it was all
about the right to go places the oil and tire companies tell you you should
like and fantasize about people who recognize you parking cars over cognac
and bananas Foster, huh?

Wolfgang
well, were it worth the trouble, pilgrim?

Meniscus and bruschetta, meniscus and bruschetta. You never lose
a roffian argument because no one can ever hope to best, or equal,
your pigheaded Teutonic tenacity in an argument.

Whatever this was all about, you win .... again.

Well, if I read the thread right, you claimed tofu was something only those
with extreme culinary refinement would even understand, and, to back up your
argument, began blustering on about four and five star restaurants...which
apparently aren't up to your level of culinary sophistication.

Wolfgang, in his normal shifty argument style, claimed "I've had more superb
meals in the basements of southern Baptist churches than in four star
restaurants....or my own kitchen, for that matter" in an effort to sound
important and knowledgeable, but not disclosing until much later that he had
not had the experience of eating in a four or five star restaurant; in
essence, showing that he too, is basing an argument on ignorance and deceit.

I'm not really sure who wins the Deceitfully Ignorant & Gratingly Arrogant
Award between the two of you...maybe you'd care to discuss it over some
smoked turkey legs and caviar on toast points?

Damnation! I HAD them.....I had them all right in the palm of my insidious
little hand.....I was THIS close to convincing ALL of them that I AM
important and knowledgeable! And then you had to come along.....YOU with
your nasty sleuthing and reasonaing and whatnot all! *******! I'LL GET YOU
FOR THIS! JUST SEE IF I DON'T!

but not disclosing until much later that he had

Look.....you seem like a nice boy.....why don't you run along a go play with
Warren for a while......we'll call you when dessert's ready.

Look, you can insult Ken's tofu, Ken's mother's tofu, even Ken's mother's
****er's tofu, feel free to totally trash his alledged gumbo recipe but do
not ever insult an etoufee like that again. I know some cajuns which will
use you for gator bait faster than the current administration will invade
another country to win an election.

I think in this case he meant to imply that the restraunt was not pricey but
great. Knowing the place he mentioned, a good meal could be had for under
$10, sans alcohol.
