no damn wonder i'm unfamiliar with em..

You'd like 'em.......they taste like deep
fried wild turkey.

Wolfgang
um.....so does tofu, for that matter.

yeah...and you assured me that we'd see a hodag and that pasties were
fine dining too.

jeff (i'm getting a drink of squakkin buzzard to wash the thought of
olive power bars and tofu from my mind)

I wonder how much of the need to inject flavor
into turkeys is a result of the one factory-bred
turkey almost all of us buy.

We deep-fried two wild turkeys at work, the day before T-Day. The turkeys
were skinless, as it is much easier to skin one than to pluck one (one
equals a wild turkey). The birds were not injected, as this was the first
time any of these guyz had deep-fried a turkey, yet the bird was amazinly
tender and juicy to eat.

Want to trade the tail and wing feathers for some finished flies?

Bloody hell Stan! You been reading "strider" posts? Or are you attempting
to provoke yet another interminable thread? That was barely acceptable!

Kalamatra is the town in Greece where that variety of olive originated.
Calamatas is the *******ized english spelling which seems to acceptable
these days.
With Olives curing or processing is more important that the variety.
Someone (mostly Greeks ) who knows what there doing can take Missions or
Manzinallos ( The two varities that use to make up most of the "table"
olives grown in this country) and make great tasting olives.
We use to send a semi load of fresh olives to Chicago every November. The
buyers were Greeks who like to cure their own olives. Olives cannot be
eaten right from the tree. Here a good site if you can get fresh olives
try the Oil Cured Greek Style.
http://www.oliveoilsource.com/olive_recipes_.htm . Curing green olives uses
lye, just like hominy or that fish the Swedes eat.
I read now that the olive business is now being yuppieized in California so
there is a lot going on that I never suspected long ago when in the FFA. If
your driving through Calfornia and some kid at fruit stand says you can eat
all the olives you want from a handy tree don't take em up on it. I never
did that but heard that some people do.

gaaack!! i have no idea what calamata might be, but my brief tryst with
a power bar leads me to believe i'd sooner sample tofu.

Sure - but just imagine the esthetic appeal of an olive power bar. Dark
brown bar with flecks of darker brown or black; maybe even a few red pieces
of pimento if you get the enhanced version. Stays hard until you warm it up
by holding in your armpit. Delectable!!

Reading roffian discourse on the subject of tofu is like reading
the report of a Japanese sports writer who mistakenly wandered in
on a performance of the Bolshoi Ballet and wrote it up as a really
dull Sumo match.

You just SO don't get it.

But what do you expect from folks who actually think deep fried
turkey might be a good idea.

It's not all about tofu, Bill. It's about tofu and bruschetta. :-)

To think that one of these assholes regularly calls me a fag is so damn
funny.
