It makes me feel like I should be wearing a robe and a powdered wig. You can just call me Citizen Barnard. :-) I am proud, however, to have been elected by a majority of the voters in Stanley. My one brief brush with local politics sounds similar (even though I didn't get past the primary). Just because I was willing to step up and put myself on the line for the good of the party, I was, inexplicably, part of the "in" crowd and was invited to heady political functions and got to party and press the flesh with the state party powerful, even the governor. Even among folks who'd known me a while, I became more than the person I used to be and received more respect than I thought I deserved. Embarassing? Maybe a little; but mostly it was strange and fun and intoxicating. I sort of miss it; but I'm also kinda glad I didn't get used to it. Joe (45%) F. |
