Default Powell 1409 (+1107) contd.

I finally got the Airflo Delta 8/9 in the mail and went to the local
ponds to try it out this
weekend. It didnt work all that well, but as I was about to leave the
only other spey caster
in our club showed up. Turns out he had the 9/10 so we decided to try
that instead. He got
fairly excited when he saw the rod since he had wanted to try it for
some time. We changed
lines and he did a few casts and started looking like a 5 year old
christmas morning, the grin
simply wouldnt come off his face again. After a few trial casts he shot
into the backing, i.e.
140 foot of line out. I probably managed about 100feet (he is a far
better two hand caster than
I am).

Since I was about to take off I left the rod with him so that he could
try out some of his other lines.
Now I wondering if I should order the 9/10 instead, but it might be
wasted money since Im not 100%
sure he is willing to return my rod to me judging by the expression on
his face when he was casting it.

I also have an 1107 that I was close to putting up for sale. I decided
to hang on to it for another few weeks
to try it with a shooting head. Im glad I didnt sell it. Without hauling
and not much practice its wasnt too
hard to hit the 100 mark using a 30 foot 8wt head. Im using Rio
slickshooter for a running line instead
of mono so that costs a bit of distance as well.

So all in all a pretty decent Sunday afternoon at the casting ponds.

Sounds like a good time was had by all but WTF were you thinking when
you bought the 8/9? G

Someone on the speypages suggested I try this line.

Another person was using the same rod with the 8/9 version and liked the way

it was handling, so thats why.
