How can that *not* be combat? The guy got blown to bits by incoming fire! The guy was fiddling with a hand grenade when it went off, and it was in a non-combat situation. |

You read a hatchet job by the uberbitch Ann Coulter and swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Four days after heroic action in the battle of Khe Sanh, for which he was awarded the Silver Star, Cleland was nearly killed in an accident. He wasn't "fiddling" with a hand grenade. He picked it up after he thought it fell off his web belt when he jumped out of a helicopter. You are a disgrace. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

snipped I never read Ann Coulter's account of what happened. I've talked with vets and that is what they claim. Does he have a PH? No. That should tell you something. And you're a putz afterall. Dave http://hometown.aol.com/davplac/myhomepage/index.html |

You seem to do a lot of talking with nameless "vets" who don't know what the **** they're talking about. You and your anonymous pals are a bunch of despicable, backbiting, lying, rear echelon mother****ing cowards and a disgrace to the uniform. Scum like you are not worthy of scraping the mud off the shoes of true heroes like John Kerry and Max Cleland. You've really opened up and shown roff your true colors, yellow to the core, and we should be thankful for that at least. The vile, vicious and unprecedented attacks on Max Cleland during the 2002 Senate race stiffened the resolve of Democrats and NO MORE will lying filth like you be allowed to attack the patriotism of those who disagree with you. We are mad as hell and WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE !! From now on we fight back, HARD, against these outrageous lies and the despicable, cowardly liars who tell them. And let that be Max Cleland's political legacy. -- Ken Fortenberry |

snippage Max Cleland served honorably and received a Silver Star. I have no doubt about that and I am thankful for it. He did not, however, "leave his limbs on a battlefield" like your adorable DNC head claims. That is all I have to say about Max Cleland. John Kerry saved a man's life in VN and for that he was awarded the Bronze Star. That is commendable. The story about his actions that got him the Silver Star are a little suspicious, especially the part where he shoots a wounded man fleeing from the scene with a wound in a leg. He has his back to Kerry. The Geneva Convention prohibits such action. You can't kill wounded unless you are in danger. The VC teenager was running away from Kerry. Yeah, I was a remf, and so was 30% of the Army, 30% of the USMC, 80% of the Navy, and 90% of the AF. But, we did our jobs and helped end the Cold War. Your type of "patriot" is the one who spit on every GI returning home, whether or not he was in RVN. It was your type that stopped their car while I was hitchhiking and beat the **** out of me (2 men and a girl) simply because I was in uniform. It was your kind, along with Kerry, Hanoi Jane, Ramsey Clark, Tom Hayden, et al, that gave comfort to the enemy and prolonged the war. Your kind killed more gi's than anyone else. And then you have the balls to say, "if I was drafted I'd go to jail", KNOWING that you never stood a chance to be drafted because you were too young. A ****in' wannabe you are! A brave, 7 iron armed, protestor. Bull****. So, stick that 7 iron up your buggered ass, coward. |

I wonder if Khe Sanh had good beer. g.c. |

He was fortunate enough to not be wounded during his brave service, for which he was awarded the Silver Star. I agree with that. No problem. He done good. What's with this PH red herring? It's no red herring. It is what I have been talking about all along. McAuliffe claims "he lost his limbs on a battlefield protecting us." That is not true. He unfortunately lost his limbs in a non-combat situation, so he doesn't deserve the PH (unfortunately). Dave http://hometown.aol.com/davplac/myhomepage/index.html |

Coulter, in her article, claimed he was on a beer run. I wonder if Khe Sanh had good beer. I have not read Coulter's account of it. But I do know that he did not receive a PH for it as McAuliffe claims. The guy was a hero, no doubt about that, but McAuliffe's remarks about "leaving his limbs on a battlefield" are incorrect. He did not receive his wounds in combat. And, actually, they did have good beer in Khe Sahn. I imagine it came in by air. |
