Default rod building query

I'm getting ready to build up a new 8 wt. Any thoughts on Titanium coated
guides vs. the SiC guides? Also, the guide sets I'm looking at come
standard with a 12 mm and a 10mm striping guide- I'm wondering if a
slightly larger striping guide would be better for shooting line??

I just started building rods. Try this question on:

www.rodbuilding.org

Besides finding many experts there, you may find great deals on the
components you seek. I'm building rods for my groomsmen and the folks on
that message board really helped me make great choices.

John,

I've used both sets of guides and although the titanium guides are supposed
to be better (harder and less inclined to be worn out), I've yet to notice
any major differences while using them, other than the price.

When it comes to the stripping guide, unless you think the larger stripping
guide looks overdimensioned on your rod a larger diameter guide would be
better from the simple fact that less contact with the line will be
achieved. I'd say it is a question of esthetics.

/Roger
