My sentiments exactly, Joe you passed the audition. Thanks for stepping up to
the plate. Thanks to all who participated. These swaps and Stan's most
excellent photo history of the swaps on ROFF is some of the most way cool
stuff about ROFF. Please send Stan the recipe's or tying instructions.

The flies were the hit of the day at Saturday's meeting of the Roadkill
Roundtable. It is getting where the guys there look forward to seeing the fly
swap flies. Some were asking last month when they would be in.

I was wondering about that mutha myself. I was thinking that I
might try it in the salt down here along the Taxsuss coast. If I
can't get any fish to bite it, I'll hit 'em over the head with it.

Thanks to Joe and to all the tiers. This was my first time to
participate, and I was a bit apprehensive trying to tie trout flies
when most of my experience has been spinning deer hair. But it was
great practice, and it won't be my last. Best of all, I felt like a
kid in a candystore opening the box and examining each one.

I left the box out on the dining table to show to SWMBO when she
got home from work. She doesn't know much of anything about
flies/fly-fishing, but even she was impressed. She especially liked
some of the "little fishies" (her words) some of you guys tied. :-)
For my money, it was just a real kick to see all of the different
styles from various regions and countries.

Now I just have to decide whether to fish them and risk losing 'em
or just save them as examples to try to copy.

That's the really great thing about Stan Gulas's ROFF Swaps web pages, complete
with pictures and recipes. You can fish the flies and always go to the web page
to make copies of the ones that work well for you. I like it when I get an email
telling me how someone caught a nice fish with a fly I tied (proof that fish
will eat anything), and I try to always return the compliment.

I've participated in swaps where each tier ties two flies for each of
the other participants, one to fish and one to "collect." Nice, but
really only practicable for small numbers of tiers (less than 40, say
g).

We'll see about that on Wednesday when I surprise Warren and whip out
his fly and start fishing it on the lower Madison while he's rowing
the boat :-)

I don't think the lower Madison may be the place for this fly and it
would probably do better here on the Yellowstone.

Finally! They got to Orrygone today! Guess they'd got here sooner but they
must have got caught up in all the weddings and such being held up in
Portland.

They sure are purty! Sure been afraid someone was going to marry up with
one or two, they're so sexy, just plumb blows me away.

Come to think about it, a passle o' them flies are so fine, guess I'll get
hitched up with them myself G.
