Cool!! May field test a gallon myself.
Mike "George Adams" wrote in message ... From: "Mike Makela" Read the threads a few weeks back about several options for buying "generic" Frog's Fanny from several sources. Has anyone actually tried one of the sources and is it a good alternative. The first thing that came to mind was that the texture. Is it the same? I would think it would need to be or it could create problems? I have a gallon of Cab-o-Sil and it appears to be identical in every way to F.F. If it ever stops snowing up here, I'll field test it. Man, I bet that stuff is harder to get into the bottle than it is to get
those little foam packaging peanuts back into the box. Any suggestions before I buy a lifetime supply, or is it pretty much a non-issue? Jim Ray "Mike Makela" ten.tsacmoc@alekamm wrote in message ... Any suggestions before I buy a lifetime supply, or is it pretty much a non-issue? It's alittle messy, but not hard. I have mine in a large gallon sized ziplock. I open the bag enough to dip the bottle in, fill it, remove it from the bag, shake it to settle the stuff and repeat until full. That's the best way I've found. The stuff is very light and easily gets blown around. Willi |

It looks like from this site that there are different consistencies. http://w1.cabot-corp.com/controller....&entry=product A few more links originally supplied by Snoop/RW on the previous thread: http://www.eagerplastics.com/cab.htm - For the M5 type, need a minimum $25 order online which equates to at least 2 1/2 lbs of the stuff (5 gallons). I went with the next one.. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...es/cabosil.php - $6.75 an lb with shipping $10.60 for a lb, not sure which type, but I went ahead and went placed an order for an lb. Just hope the stuff doesn't leak on the way and the feds show up thinking it's anthrax or something a little less intoxicating.. The Finn |

![]() So you got yours and it is basically identical to the "Frog's Fanny" ?? I got a big bag from a local fly shop for $15. They told me it was "toner." It is "Frog's Fanny". Skinner looked at it and said it was cabosil. He used to use the stuff when he was building custom planes. I thought it would last me a lifetime, but I've given alot of it away and I will have to restock sometime. I think I only got several ounces. A pound of the stuff must be an enormous quantity. The stuff is VERY light. Willi |

The stuff is VERY light. Willi I managed to track it down here in Aus. as well. Found it as a "filler" (this particular item is called Aerosil 200) used in resins at a model (clay, latex etc) supplier. Apart from filler and colouring agents there's a foot odor powder that uses it as a component, there was also some "snake oil" tonic that ...anyway... I did consider using the foot powder for a few seconds ... something about a combination floatant wader deodoriser appealed. ;-) 125 grams (I estimate enough to fill a lot (30+) of Frogs Fanny bottles) cost $10. It looks to be about 1.5 to 2 litres of a very fine light white powder that has a sort of soapy feel to it. So what now, a stiffish brush applicator and scrub it into the fly?? (The original Frog's Fanny must be good they're tying flies to imitate it .... http://www.geocities.com/zachpittman...FlashMidge.htm :-) Steve |
