As will come as no surprise these are not the best dates for trout
fishing. On the other hand smallmouth fishing should be very, very
good. Your better luck for trout would be a bit further south around
Viroqua or even over in MN on the spring creeks there. Of course your
best luck for smallies will be in the opposite direction (north) on
the lower Namekagan and upper St.Croix and Red Cedar river near Rice
Lake.
