As some may remember, my oldest and dearest Winston fly rod - a 9/5 IM6 2pc
that I bought almost 20 years ago - suffered an apparent fatal injury at the dramatic conclusion of our "Float Or Die" canoe trip down the Connecticut River last fall. The butt section was totally shattered and as this rod long predated any warranty I thought it was going to Heaven for sure. After dragging my ass all Fall and Winter, not really ready to hear this rod pronounced Dead (and with a $600+ replacement cost!) I finally screwed up the courage to contact the Winston folks in Twin Bridges. I spoke with a very nice lady named Paula in the repair department and she not only assured me they still repaired the original IM6 series, she said she'd give me a break on the repair cost and do it for cost plus shipping. So the last thing I did before putting my life in American Airline's hands to the Caribbean was to mail the old rod and a check for $70 to Winston. Today, three weeks later, the FedEx guy dropped off my resurrected Winston. And it appears *perfect* - the new butt section looks perfect, the two sections fit perfectly at the ferrule, and the rod finish and windings on the butt are an absolute dead-on color match for the original surviving tip section. So a thousand Thank Yous and a box of MegaKudos to Winston Rods for treating a random chump so well. I'm so thrilled to have this rod back I may buy a new Winston just on GPs! /daytripper (Might just have to try out a 9/4 Boron IIX 4pc :-) |

What I've seen and heard about Winston service has made quite an impression on me. My personal experience was last year, when the reel seat of my new 8' 2wt Winston turned out to be too small for some of the standard small reels we use here. After contacting Winston and describing the situation to them in detail, they took the rod back and changed the seat. This all happened very swiftly and cost me nothing, and the end result was flawless. daytripper So a thousand Thank Yous and a box of MegaKudos to Winston daytripper Rods for treating a random chump so well. I'm so thrilled daytripper to have this rod back I may buy a new Winston just on GPs! One of the best excuses of getting to select a new stick. :-) Jarmo |
