This, I think, is the place reffered to in "The Spawning Run". You
really should read it, Myron. You can get a copy cheap on bookfinder.

I've never seen this Goldsmith quote before; in context, it is rather
amusing. In Boswell's words (IIRC): "Poor old Goldsmith".

Eh? I'd be pleased if I'd written anything a quarter as good as "She
stoops to conquer". As Johnson said,

"qui nullum fere scribendi genus non tetigit,
Nullum quem tetigit non ornavit."

I often mutter this to myself after a take on the dry fly before
striking. Maybe this is why I catch so few fish?

IIRC?

If I remember correctly.

Thanks riverman,

Not doubting Goldsmith's talent, just that he was unfortunate to be
continually "dwarfed" by Johnson. The Moby Dick quote from Goldsmith I just
read on this thread is an interesting aspect on this relationship.

"qui nullum fere scribendi genus non tetigit,
Nullum quem tetigit non ornavit."

Also for accommodation try Googling "Accommodation in Brecon, South

Wales"

There is a huge list of hotels guest houses, self catering cottages etc.

Bill: I was thinking of this guest house http://www.cammarch.co.uk in
Llangamarch Wells. No special reason, except that it seemed off the beaten
track, has comfportable accomodations, and offers access to 3 beats (8
pools) for 12 pounds per day. I think, as it participates in the Ulm and Usk
passport system, that I would have access to much more water if I stayed
there, but in truth I find it hard to understand the Welch system, so I'm
not sure. I was going to email them and ask.

This place has just been refurbished, so is more expensive now than it
would have been a few years ago. Have had a good drink there several
times... Fishing within walking distance of the hotel is excellent.
Mainly trout in June. Grayling fishing is usually winter sport but
you'll get 'em in June as well.

You can get a train from Llangammarch Wells down the Towy valley to
Llandovery, Llangadog, Llandeilo... Lovely line... But the trains
aren't frequent..!

If you plan well, you can probably dispense with car hire for a few
days...

The Fishing Clubs seemed to have many-year-long waiting lists so the
best bet for game fish is a hotel with Fishing Rights.

Most waters club or otherwise do provide "day" tickets.

The web-site "fishing in wales" should provide the locations of such
outlets.

Thanks, Bill! The public fishing access in the US kinda spoils a
person. I hope I make it back to the UK someday.
