Spent Saturday on the Deschutes, lots of wild flowers out. Around Maupin or where? I was using a size 18 Pheasant tale nymph as in the middle of the day the are deep and dining on black fly larva and such. I may have to give in and start using a strike indicator, two of the fish more or less hooked themselves. I think many folks try to fish too far out on the D, maybe intimidated a bit by its size. This time of year, high sticking a #18 PT under a fairly heavily weighted Prince or stonefly nymph can be deadly. JR --missing that first smell of juniper and sage in the morning |
