Here's the short report (and you'll probably figure out why we haven't posted TRs): We got smoked. And the slightly longer version: We kayaked and waded all over the Keys. RW and I spent one day with the guide we all met at Rock Crick. All of us together caught fewer fish than I expected any one of us to catch in one day, and we didn't give up for 6 days. Well, since I was sick I puked most of the last day and only fished a little. We do know our way around the Keys a little though and we know where there are beautiful hard bottom flats that you can wade in several places, including a couple of really cool, more primitive looking flats that are away from the highway a little. We paddled and waded to some really cool places and saw some great stuff - turtles, rays, birds, sharks, baitfish, etc. And I had a blast hanging out with RW, Willi, and Charlie Choc as usual. The fishing was really tough though and I need a lot more practice spotting bonefish and the other spooky critters out there. And my pinpoint accuracy at 65 feet in the wind leaves a bit to be desired also. bruce h |

One of them was a trophy fish of about 10 pounds. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

No one has yet mentioned that Willi hooked a tarpon off the White St. Pier in Key West at night, under the pier lights, and had it on for at least two jumps. That was pretty awesome. We went back the next night in a freshening wind :-) and saw nothing. So it goes. My most vivid memory of a fish was when we were hanging out in our kayaks in the channel of the big muddy flat. A shark about as long as my kayak, which I saw coming from about 100 yards away, turned for my fly and my heart stopped a beat. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

It jumped 3 times, and it was really cool. I'd guess maybe a 30-40# fish. Willi sure had a big grin. g -- Charlie... |

Very true with the exception of your ability to catch Bonefish in ways that are supposed to be impossible. Although incompetance surely played a role, our lack of success wasn't due to a lack of effort. And the slightly longer version: We kayaked and waded all over the Keys. Even though the lack of fish was disappointing, I had a good time and had a number of new experiences. Here's a cool Acrobat slide show of Bruce's big bonefish that Charley made. LARGE file. Music included if you have the newest Acrobat. http://www.crystalglen.net/Fishing/050404.htm Willi |
