Rudy,
Just checking in to see if there were any more bear issues. I just heard
that Baker's site was hit as well, and his trailer itself may have sustained
some damage. If you haven't already, get in touch with local Animal Control
folks with the state, they should be able to help you. Make sure you let
everyone know when they arrive as well. This is an issue you have to deal
with, or very bad publicity can spread(it was being discussed in Coburn by last
weekend).

A copy of what I emailed to Rudy earlier today. Anyone who wishes to contact
them can go to:
www.hemlockacrescampground.com
or just email to

We have to break this guy in, I think he
might be caught off guard by various aspects of the campground business.

Wolfgang asks:
I was under the impression that
everyone knew about the sightings

as was I, my apologies for not relaying. To my knowledge Rudy was aware of
bears in the area, but not campground proper when I arrived.

He was most certainly aware by Sunday at the latest. He was not greatly
concerned......gave the distinct impression that he thought it was kind of
cool to have bears around. Frankly, so did I.......till thursday night.

Heard reports on
Sun. of smaller bear down by Cabin #1. Next-door neighbor told me Tues or

Weds
about bear-sighting that am.

Did anyone at least inform Rudy of the damage the bear did?

I did, but need to update after John's posts.

Neither John nor I mentioned that both his cooler and mine had been
ransacked earlier in the week. I shrugged it off as the work of a dog that
I saw slinking off when I arrived at his trailer (where I'd left my cooler
after cooking the night before) early one morning. I reasoned that a bear
would have eaten all the veggies and left over pasta that was left in my
cooler.....whatever it was bit some holes in the bags but didn't eat the
contents. John's cooler had some neat punctures in it.....obviously tooth
marks. In retrospect (again!), I think I misjudged.

With a
campground about to fill up for Memorial Day someone should impress
upon him that he has a very serious problem on his hands.

or, he could screw up, terrify the regulars and we could have the run of

the
place any week we want by next year....actually, I tried to impress upon

him
the seriousness of the situation, don't know him well enough to judge the
uptake speed....

Well, he's been informed. The rest is up to him. We can only hope that bad
things don't happen.

i nominate you to do just that. it is my thought that if he tries

to
blow you off, he will *never* get over the world of virtual **** that

will
descend upon him; this may encourage him to actually do something about

the
problem, and thereby save someone from inconvenience, injury, or worse.

Hm.....good idea. I had forgotten that Rudy told us he has a website now.
I'll see if I can find it and send him a note.

Holy ****. I knew bears were attracted to Wolfie, but this is a new high . .
..

Actually, the behavior of the campground manager is damned close to
criminal. The most likely outcome is a dead bear. Or a bear that hurts
somebody, which therefore scares hell out of the populace and leads to a lot
of other dead bears. It's cool to have bears, just like it's cool to have
native trout and wolves, because they both like wild places. But when people
encourage them by not warning campers about them, by not putting garbage in
safe places, and by not encouraging campers to use bear-proof containers,
it's a real shame.

Well I'm not defending anyone but have been going to Hemlock Acres for 8 -10
years it is bear country...It is in a mountain setting bear country...Tom has
told us of several bear incounters ie Cherry run cabin.....I have told of
seeing one last July at Three Streamer Stans was told there were three there by
the lovely Mrs Stan which as the crow flies is about a mile from Hemlock
Acres.....also of humming bird feeder iron poles being bent over and the
feeders being destroyed two trailors up from Clave Central...... The first
siteing of the big bear was Tuesday a.m. at the trailor next to Clave Central i
can't be sure but i thought we had mentioned it....This is the first i have
heard of John & Wolfies incounter Mike Makela & Tim Carter had an incounter
Sunday morning with the small bear tipping over trash cans and eating dog
food.....Yes Rudy does need to do something about these bears he can't have
them wondering around the campgrounds it is just a matter of time before man
and bear have an incounter and we all know the bear will lose in the
end....Most everyone on R.O.F.F. has spent quite a bit of time fishing or
camping in remote areas and have incountered wildlife and as Frank said he got
careless.....Hopfully this will end in a win win situation the bears being
captured and relocated and noone or there pets hurt.....As far as Rudy is
concerned lets give him a chance he has only been in the campground business
for a month he doesen't know the ins and outs yet... our trash was picked up
every other day and i found the bathrooms in a clean condition when i used
them....Sorry for the rambling
