I recalled that the Army map cases in Vietnam were
very similar to the zip locks of today. Discarded ones
and the ones we could barter from the supply sgt.
were used to store cigarettes, matches and toilet paper.
It would keep them dry in the humid weather and even more so inside a
rucksack. It was from that remembrance
that I got the idea from. Glad you all find it favorable :-)

That's what got me started scanning them in the first place. Took the kids
out fishing and they ruined the map book I had gotten from the county. After
scanning them, we only took a printed verison with, so we could always
reprint if needed.

From there, we have about 200 maps online for the area now... All with
permission from originating agencies (and we even got DuPage County to
drop the fee for their booklet so they were free online or in person...
course, the fewer booklets they have to print, the more $'s they might
have left over for spring stocking). Kind of a odd thing, but has been
a great excuse for buying hardware (but, I need the new scanner/camera...) ;-)

P.S. Trying to convince your wife you need better powertools... be a volunteer
scout leader "I needed the new router table to cut the birdhouses faster".
