some thin diameter Hi Colin, use braid with a 12ft nylon leader, that should take care of the "rough ground" element. I used to use Stren Magnathin but if it's abrasion your worried about that will suffer the same problem as it's thin and susceptable to nicks. The best line for fishing rough ground is Stren, it's thick but tough. The other alternative is wire. Cheers, Norman. |

wrote: A want to fill my line up with 30-40lb nylon for fishing rough ground, I want some thin diameter can anyone recommend a good make as the Japanese line I use to buy is very difficult to obtain 30-40 lb isn't exactly subtle ;-) On rough ground the usual problem is abrasion. The secondary problem is tangling. Thin line is susceptible to abrasion. Limp line is susceptible to tangling. Unless you have a particular reason for using 30-40lb bs (it's very hard to break 30lb bs line with the rod) you might be better to rethink the problem. Consider using the cheapest bulk line of a suitable diameter. It will be rather stiff which reduces abrasion and you can change it more often so you'll generally be using newer, less abraded line. You're not going to be casting any great distance, so reel capacity isn't an issue, and any reel with the backbone to haul your end tackle out of a tangle of kelp will hold more than enough line in that range of BS regardless of its diameter. Have a look at http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/authors/dave02.htm for a review of various lines. The ones tested were 15lb BS, but I'd guess that the comparisons still hold for the higher BS you require.
