Never heard of this way recommended for fixed-spool reels. Maybe Shimano
know something we don't....

Wind it on spool to spool, not spilling off the end like a fixed spool.
put the spool on a pencil or something and get someone to hold it for
you
putting slight pressure on the spool as you wind it on.
Shimano recomend loading their fixed spool reels this way.

I was refering too the instructions shimano give for their reels that have
the "Anti twist power rollers"

I quote their instructions:
PowerRoller spinning reels work best when the line is loaded in the
following manner. Place a scredriver shaft (or something like that) through
the centre of the spool of line that you`re going to load onto your reel.
After tying the line to your reel ,wind the line on,allowing the spool to
turn around the screwdriver shaft (or whatever you are using). As in the
picture.
I will ommit to include the picture.
I personally have two shimano reels (plus an old shakesperare Quo) that I
load in this manner with no ill effects

To load my reels I put the spool on the work plate of my piller drill,
putting a screwdiver up through the spool and clamping it in the chuck. A
small amount of lead is put on top of the spool, to weight it down and stop
it bouncing on the work plate as it turns.
As the spool turns, the friction between the spool and the work plate of the
drill is sufficient to tension the line.
