Default Charging batteries over winter

Been Charging mine every winter for the last 3 years...no problems here .
Using a Guest charger.
I guess its just what you feel comfortable with.

Earlier this year, I installed an on-board charger on my boat to charge

the
starting and trolling battery.

Question: Is is ok to leave it plugged in all winter, even if I'm not
planning on using the boat until about the first of March? Or, should I

only
charge it every once in awhile?

The charger I have is one of them that suppose to continually condition

the
batteries, but I cannot find the owners manual to see what it says about
storage.

If the boat is stored for the winter, there's no point in leaving the
charger plugged in,
is there? And that's not even taking into account the safety factor.

Topping them off one in a while is the best plan as they lose charge over
time. In cold climates, this leads to burst batteries (DAMHIKT!)
