BTW, for those complaining about slow downloads, one of the (only) nice
things
about Windows is that you can actually work on something else while you're
waiting for the download. Isn't technology wonderful? ;-)

And how does the windows operating system relate to slow downloads? Just
wondering... You could also tie a fly, **** - ups, meant make "love" to your
girl/boyfriend or make a cup of joe while you wait for a download )

So how is that different from any other reasonably modern OS? At least
with Mac OS and Linux you don't have to worry about the download
infecting you with a virus while you're working on something else.

Actually, it's your fault, because you didn't quote the identity of the
original poster in your reply. My server hasn't shown that original
post, so I did a cut and paste from your reply. If you had included his
identity, as is customary, it would have been in my reply.

And your news reader doesn't distinguish between quoted text and
fresh?

That's mainly because Linux and Mac aren't popular enough for the
hackers to make the efforts needed to spread viruses. If either system
was used as widely as as Microsoft, they'd be the ones that were getting
hit.

That's a big factor, but it's not the whole story by a long shot. Both
Mac OS and Linux are "fresher" operating systems than the various
flavors of Windows. They've inherited less legacy code, suffer less from
code bloat, and are generally more comprehensible and maintainable. You
can add to that the tendency of Microsoft to tightly integrate non-OS
applications (like Explorer) into Windows (for competitive reasons, to
exploit their near monopoly), in opposition to good software-engineering
principles.
