![]() Think of ROFF as the pot bellied stove in the back of a fly shop with a bunch of chairs around it. Fly fishers stop by from time to time and pull up a chair to chew the fat but more than likely they will not talk about fly fishing a lot. A bunch of folks will stand back away from the stove, content to listen to the discussion but will offer a comment once in a while. When they're not interested in the topic they'll walk up front & test a rod or just leave & come back tomorrow, as will many of the folks at the stove. This is where fly fisher folk hang out when they are not fly fishing to talk about all the issues that interest them and if a non-fishing subject comes up they will talk/argue about it with the same fervor they argue about the fly fishing topics. Got a fly fishing question? Just ask and it will be answered. Got a political comment? Just make it and, like most free ranging discussion around this pot bellied stove, it will too be knocked about and discussed. See thats tottally fine with me. The regional usenet i normally have been visiting just works very differently. Believe it of not i wasnt trying to rock the boat :-) Is ROFF actually short for something or just a term used in the way you describe above ? Take care Jakob |

Rec.Outdoors.Fishing.Fly - R.O.F.F. - the name of this newsgroup One of my favorite roffian arguments, and it's my favorite because of the principals involved and not the principles, is about that last dot. Should roff displayed on a T-shirt read R.O.F.F. or R.O.F.F ? A good argument could be, and has been, made for both. Me, I call it roff. ;-) -- Ken Fortenberry |
