Thanks for the offer, I'll try my best to take you up on it!
The only problem I forsee - so far - is that I work for the Browning
school district - I'm the Network Administrator - and it will be very
tuff for me to take any time off that week. May have to try and have
a busy day on Sun, the 5th.

Where are you coming from?

Near Seattle. We'll drive out Friday night and Saturday Morning,
trying to arrive before noon on Saturday.

Could you recommend some pike fly patterns that I could attempt to try
and tie? Any 'best' color combos?

My favorites are black and red, sometimes chartreuse, sometimes green.
The flies are tied large on 4/0 hooks. For a wealth of info, check out
Kevin Vang's pike clave home page:

http://www.misu.nodak.edu/%7Evang/PikeClave/

There are a bunch of links on the flies page for patterns that work.
Also check out Barry Reynold's book, Pike on the Fly. With the single
exception of his reccommendation that you use heavy mono for a leader,
his book is great.

my limited experience with the slimy gator-fish indicates anything with
yellow or orange as a major color is preferred...

Sure, yellow and orange too. One that's done me well recently is what
I call the Halloween fly. Half a dozen orange and black saddle hackles
for a tail, black bear for a wing, and an orange epoxy head with an eye
painted on it. I'll be bringing some of those to the clave along with
Blackbeard and black bunny leaches.

One of my son Glen's favorites is the Daredevil. It's a double bunny
with red on top and white on the bottom. Red head with a black on
white eye painted on.

Named after the spoon ?

You got it, red and white. I tried a black and white, but it wasn't
the ticket that day.
