Leaders?

I use a 5 ft leader on my sinking lines. Seems to work for me. 9ft on
floating lines.

I started tying my own bass/warm water leaders. I had been interested in
trying it. I use Harry Murrays smallmouth recipes from the Leadercalc
spreadsheet.

For trout I use Orvis Super Strong. I but the 9ft 4x leaders. I snap off
some of the 4x, then tye on 5x and 6x. Kind of building my own with a
tapered base and mid section. Works well. I can add 7x if needed. Count the
knots to remember what size tippet I have one.

I build my own leaders. Berkeley Trilene for the butt and taper sections,
then Dai-Riki tippet.
You can go with fancier materials, but Trilene has always worked fine for
me, and the price is right.

I have found that the hand tied leaders just work better. You can experiment
with different materials and tapers to get the effects you want.
For dries, the Harvey-style leader (30% butt, 30% taper, 40% tippet) 10-12
ft long, with a .017 butt and 5X or 6X tippet works very well.
