Most soft plastic lures were made here until very recently.

Except for real small operations, most tube baits these days are made in
Mexico, as most are private label manufactured by Mizmo, and that's where
they make'em. Canyon Lures (Gary Garland) still makes tubes in the US, but
for private labeling, his prices aren't even close to competitive with the
mexican tubes.

Lots of -- perhaps most -- injected plastic baits are still made in the US,
but that is changing pretty fast. The Chinese are destroying the soft
pllastics market. The storm wildeye stuff and all the similar looking
plastics sold under the bass pro and cabelas names, as well as a growing
number of private label brands, are chinese made. A manufacturer can buy
swimbaits molded onto internal jigheads, with a holographic insert and
painted details, in retail packaging, for less (much less, actually) than
he could manufacture the soft plastic part of the product paying for
American labor and materials. I understand that while there's still some US
made product in the pipeline, all BPS/XPS private label soft plastics will
now be made in China, not just the lazereye stuff. Thankfully, companies
like Zoom, Culprit, Lunker City, etc. are still manufacturing their soft
plastics in the US -- at least as long as they can hold out against the
cheaper chinese stuff.

To be specific, Charles, if memory serves me correctly it goes like this:
First, our heads (hook & head wires) are assembled, poured, and primed with
powder paint in Illinois. They are then shipped to southern Missouri for the
head detail finishing. The metallic finish blades are manufactured & plated
at two separate factories in Wisconsin. Our colored blades originate as
polished brass blades from those same factories, which are shipped for
powder painting (for improved finish durability) in the same Illinois
facility that produces the heads. All finished blades are then sent to a
specialist facility in western Missouri for forming and assembly of the
finished Quick Clip blade attachments. They are then sent to the southen
Missouri factory where the Florida-made skirts are installed on the finished
heads with the proper blade attachments, packaged, and shipped to our
Nashville facility or direct to dealers (our dealer network is just
forming).

Oh yeah, our Mustad hooks are made in the great state of Norway.

Geeze Bob, thanks for clarifying that. (I think)

So the majority of the bait is made here in the USA, but in order to get
true quality, we had to look upon the Great State of Norway for the hooks?

Now what about my new rod? Is is made in the USA, or is it one of them China
rods??? It just says Houston TX. Then again, I'm sure the Fuji guides are
Japanese, along with the reels seat. Guess the next thing I'm going to find
out about them is that the thread was made is Korea.

Let's see... there's China, Japan, USA, and Korea all working together to
build a rod. Is labor in the Asian world so cheap that they can afford to
pay all of the shipping and customs fees and still be able to sell a rod at
a decent price? That's sad if you think about it. I know shipping and
handling here in the states can eat you up... and then you have labor rates
to really run you into the ground. On top of that... most Americans don't
want to pay quality prices for a quality product.

I'm guessing it takes a little digging to find out where a product is
really 'made'. Just 'cos it says 'Your Town, USA' after the product's
name doesn't mean a thing.

Just checked mine too. The Classic WR1 says "Made in the USA", and the

other
just says Houston TX.

Not to burst your bubble, but all the manufacturer has to do is assemble
them in the US to be able to put a Made in the USA label on the product.
They can still be composed entirely of foreign made components.

Blank made right here in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, I like Fuji guides and
reel seats, but I do what I can to keep the $$$ right here in the US of A.
