Do swivels spook snook?
I want to run a 36" leader attached with a snap & swivel to the main line. Has anyone found this to spook the snook and attach the leader directly to the line instead? Thanks, Jay |

But this year during our C&R snook season (only 8 more hours to go) I have been using a 10 inch wire leader with snap swivel attached. This was all on spinning tackle. This is the stuff from Walmart. I have been just as successful as others in the area that don't use them. I had a good summer. The biggest snook I landed was so heavy that when I tried to haul it out of the surf by grabbing the leader the wire broke. One of the guys that was nearby and picked it up to put it back in the surf estimated that it was around 20 pounds. I did not have a tape measure with me because it made no difference how big they were, they were all going back. There was a consensus of the onlookers that it was over the size limit. My own idea is that these fish are predators. They are not finicky like brook trout. They do not inspect potential food for strange little artifacts. Why else would they hit lures that have treble hooks sticking out of them? I will continue using the wire leaders with snap swivels. Charlie North Port FL. .. |
