you hear something that warms the cockles of your heart.

While driving my 12 year old grandson and his 13 year old buddy home from
bass and bluegill fly fishing on a local pond, I decided to pop the question
to the 13 year old first time ever fly fisher

"OK", sez I, "Of all the things you two did today, what did you enjoy, like
or want to do again - MOST?"
Quickly almost without thinking, the 13 year old said, "I liked the fly
casting most". (Twinge went my heart.)
Thinking what gives, I asked, "Better than catching all those bluegill on
topwater with my poppers?"
"Yeah, but I really liked the casting." He said (as my heart went to my
throat).
Unbelievably, I asked, "Even more than catching that keeper bass at
sundown?"
"Yeah, that was fun, but what I really liked most of all today was the
casting!" (That choked me up so much I shut up!)
Sounds like a new fly fisherman joined our ranks Monday!

Good luck!
John

Be careful, John. You don't even want to suggest that casting
a fly rod is the essence of fly fishing.

Just you wait and see, next thing you know the usual wisenheimers
will be calling you an elitist.

Maybe, but it took me years to get beyond fly fish catching to fly fishing.
It's still mind boggling to me that a 13 year old got it the first day!!!

FWIW, my grandson takes after me He aint got it yet g And after hours
and days of practice his casts still look like wimpy hitler salutes g Not
that he knows what that is g

The 13 year old would cast and look over to me and say, "That was not a very
good cast was it?" "Nope," I'd say, "What was wrong with it?" And he would
point out what was wrong. And, the kid would keep working until he got it
right! He said he'd never been fly fishing but saw guys doing it on TV and
got interested.

Thanks to all those guys who produce those shows. Keep them coming!
Good luck!
John

Well, I don't watch many fly fishing shows on TV, so if it's
OK with you I'll extend my kudos to grandpas who take kids
fly fishing.

It's a good thing you do and I for one am grateful and jealous.

Good for you, John.
