Yesterday, the server install went very smoothly -- fishing time!!

Completed the day by heading downstream swinging caddis wets and
taking the odd dink and losing my second semi-decent fish of the
day. Oh well, it beat installing new servers.

Tell me about it.

hijack I arrived back from hurricane country yesterday after
installing a replacement server for a client that lost his entire
store to Charley. It ripped the roof off his building (
http://css.sbcma.com/timj/pics/roof.jpg ) and the rain just poured
in ( http://css.sbcma.com/timj/pics/front_desk.jpg ). This is a full
service equipment rental (hire) business. Imagine this store full of
electrical equipment and tools - all ruined beyond repair. In the
front office photo, you can see the cubby where the server used to
reside, with the 16-port multiplexor still attached to the cabinet.
I had to install the server into a temporary trailer while the store
is rebuilt, which will take nine months to a year./hijack

I'm glad you were able to get out. It would have been nice to have
made it to Penns for a spey casting lesson or two - it sounds like
fun. I had my heart set on fishing a little at the "secret spot"
today, but the wind was really whipping around. The next few days
are supposed to be pretty nice with autumn-like weather, so I hope
to sneak out some afternoon.

That situation is butt ugly. Talk about the need for offsite data
storage.

snip
Get this - no system or data backup for five years! They sent the server to us
after being submerged in about six inches of water. Fortunately, the hard drive
was at about twelve inches. We were able to place the hard drive into another
server and recover the data.

They're doing nightly backups now. G
