well, i was quite put out, but there is no question that the better
fisherman won, and it was nothing less than fascinating to watch the
snake take that fish up onto the sloping bank, and work it. i was
glad that the man with the little boy did not have his son avert his
eyes, rather they watched the action together. great stuff for a
kid, i think.
anyway, the star of the day was that awesome fish stealing snake.

..great story unbanded snake, just think, wasn't it just last spring
when you wanted to learn to flyfish? ;-)

yes, and i despaired of doing so. thank you frank- you have made my
fly fishing dream come true ;-), and given me something to enjoy my
whole life long.

I wanna know why Frank didn't send me one freakin' thing when I was
learning to fly fish. Maybe I need soliciting lessons. ;-)

That *is* cool - not something you'd see every day.

Especially if you didn't have any fishing gear because you were learning to
fly fish and Frank didn't send you anything...

What's really interesting is having a snake take a fish that is on
the end of your line. That happened to me years ago on my favorite
local river. I hooked a small bass and a cottonmouth decided he wanted it.

I wasn't about to disagree with him.

A weird thing I saw one time on Fountain Creek was a live
bluegill with a dead snake stuck to its head. The little
snake literally took on more than he could chew and died
with a fish stuck in his mouth.

Today I saw something that might be related to that. A water snake
was cruising in the shallows and he was being followed closely by a
couple of decent-sized bass. Neither the bass nor the snake looked
like they were concerned at all by the presence of the others. Maybe
the bass were keeping an eye on the snake just in case he got a
bluegill he couldn't handle. :-)

singled him out from the crowd.
