I do that Idaho/California drive a couple of times a year. It's largely
void of any culture or refinement, but

For many years I ran retrievers on the "Idaho circuits" each year, often
making the drive ( round trip) two or three times each season. .... a lot
more times than the scenery and Nevada 'culture' can justify G

I had an employee who went on to get a degree in fisheries biology ( I gave
him his first fly rod ). He then got a job, for a year or so, in the
Elko/Wells area surveying streams and ponds for environmental impact work
for mining companies. He, and a couple other 'contacts' have told me of
places with big fish and plenty of them 30 or 40 dirt road miles off the
highways, especially near Wells. Someday, I plan to stop and check some
of them out, but I'm usually too eager to see the "Welcome to Idaho" sign
going one direction and just get home going the other.
