How about the .50 Cal Browning and the M-14 that Marine Gunny Carlos
Hathcock used?

Although White Feather did use the 50 BMG a few times, his issued sniper
rifle was a Winchester standard bolt action hunting rifle in 308, his
partner carried the M14 for close in (under 600 yds) protection of the team.

His WInchester is in the Marine Museum

Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hatchcock had, and may still have, the longest
confirmed kill, 2500 yards with an M-2 with his Unertl 10x scope
mounted. According to his book, he carried extra rings so he could
detach his scope from his Model 70 Winchester and mount them on the
macine gun. His spotter carried the M-14 and he shot the Model 70 in
30-06 not .308. An old gunsmith I knew had an exact copy of that rifle
and scope and it too was VERY accurate. Best book I have ever read
about snipers was his, Marine Sniper, 93 Confirmed Kills. Saw him once
at a gunshow in Dallas. The things that man has seen and done is just
awesome. Read the book if you get a chance and then you will know
where some of the stories Hollywood tells come from.

You must be from Mane, where shooting fish with a gun is legal

I think that you're thinking of Lake Champlain in Vermont. It's not as
risky as it sounds, the other side of the lake has only strip malls with reb
shoppers in them.
