Rich, I hereby give you an open invitation to join me any given
weekend on Champlain next season. You name the date, my Boat and I are
there.

That's just my Champlain season, Phil. There's still at least 2 months of
fishin' here. You know the Hudson ain't even thought about getting good
yet! And I just got an invite from a buddy to join him next weekend at
Champlain, so maybe I'll stretch that one out too!

LOL. I did not for one minute think you were about to hang up your rods for
this year quite yet. You are right about the Hudson, it should just be
starting to get good. If you do end up going up to Champlain I hope you have
just as good luck as last time if not better.

What I noticed most in the story however was your mention of
catching muskie on that "toothy critter gitter" spinnerbait. Was that on
Champlain or somewhere nearer to home ?

The 'gitter's true musky catches have come from the Niagara River. It's also
scored tigers from Pontoosuck in Mass.

Regarding muskie in Lake champlain, I have caught two sub-legal ones, both
in the '80s. One about 24" long in the mouth of the Missisquoi River in the
'81, and one very small one (less than 15") in Town Farm Bay a year or two
later.
I knew the Champlain muskies were supposed to be limited to the Missiquoi
and Great Chazy River areas, so the one down there in Vergennes was
something of a shocker. Until now, I just figured it was a natural wanderer
from one of the northern locales. Learning now that there was a stocking
program based around Little Otter creek in that time frame explains a lot.
Thanks for that tidbit.

You have my permission to kill all the lampreys int Lake Champlain. While
you're at it, knocking off a few thousand cormorants might not be a bad
idea, either. But please make your DEC buddies stop ripping out all the
chestnut! It's in 'your' end of the lake and the bass love it! The pike love
it. If you ever successfully establish musky down there, they'll love it
too!
