So how is the mighty pirate these days? Long time no chat.

Now to Bush, TU, and cold water fisheries. TU has never seen a resource
development project they don't like! The recent plead for money
campaign states that 40% of all waterways in America don't hold fish.
40%! Do you believe these numbers? It's sensationalism at it's finest.
If people would learn to actually study the facts and quit relying on
op-ed pieces from TU or any other source, we might stand a better chance
at really understanding the issues. Bush hasn't been the best from an
environmental standpoint, but he hasn't been the worst.

To the original poster. Do your homework on this issue. I've
personally never seen so many waterways in the west in such fine shape.
Oh wait. The drought has caused problems with many rivers, but that
isn't a result of any current policies implemented by Bush. We should
be excited, as a nation, that the riverways continue to improve every
year.

Haven't heard from you either!

Bush is NOT a friend of our fisheries.

I think you're the one that needs to research Bush's and his Secretary
of the Interior, Gale Norton's record on environment protection as a
whole (ie look at their attempts to repeal and weaken the Clean
Water Act and the Clean Air Act) as well as their free market approach
to OUR National lands (ie the ONLY value our National lands have are
the money that they can generate).

Absolutely correct - he isn't. But he isn't an enemy of them, either.
Last I checked, it isn't in the job description, and the same document
provides for no right(s) as to folks being able to fish on public
waters. The fact that it is available is much like a driver's license,
a hunting license, etc. - a privilege.

Any fly-angler who gets unduly upset about an innapropriately placed bush
would be better advised to take up golf.

Bush isnt a enemy? You are very ignorant.
President Bush appointed
Mark Rey as the Undersecretary for Natural Resources and the
Environment. Rey is now responsible for the care and management of our
National Forests and Grasslands. Mark Rey was keynote speaker for
Allicance for America. What is their views on the environment?
"Our goal is to destroy, to eradicate the environmental movement. We
want to be able to exploit the environment for private gain,
absolutely."

Bush has renamed timber harvest plans to "fire reduction plans". The
greatest risk of fire is the angeles forest which borders southern
california. This area has little desirable lumber tho. No surprise
that all of southern california gets less funding that miniscule towns
in alaska.

Another key Bush appointe was a former lawyer for the timber industry
(forget his name). He advocated treating hatchery salmon and
steelhead as counting as wild fish. Now Bush has him running in
charge of our fisheries (the NOA?). He has no education in the
sciences, wildlife, or biology, he was a lawyer for timber so they
could rape the environment to make money. Now he is in charge of
protecting the environment. No surprise he is advocating rules that
could destroy our anadromous waterways.
