This summer I asked a well known ( I'd like to say who, but don't have that permission... ) fly shop owner and very active conservationist in trout stream protection, "Besides sending a check to the right groups, what can I do, as an individual, to help protect this area's trout streams and ecology." Without hesitation the answer came, "Work to get Bush out of office." Well, if one person in a fly shop said it then it MUST be true. ;-) Perhaps he is talking about Craig Matthews and Blue Ribbon Flies? Craig is a great guy and has a terrific shop. I could probably go into 50 other shops in Montana and Idaho and find the same type of response. I can't blame most of these guys. They need to preserve the cold water fisheries for their shops to survive. They read op-ed pieces that indicate Bush is Satan and they take the info verbatim. Ask most shop owners about the history of the watersheds they support and most won't have a clue about the state of the fishery in the early 1900's. The fact that the fisheries are in better shape and continue to improve has little significance on their stance. Of course they might change their minds after Kerry taxes the **** out of him if he is elected. ![]() Now *there's* an excellent example of people who read op-ed pieces and take the info verbatim... /daytripper (real nice work there ;-) |

Last I checked, it isn't in the job description, and the same document provides for no right(s) as to folks being able to fish on public waters. The fact that it is available is much like a driver's license, a hunting license, etc. - a privilege. TC, R |

I think you're the one that needs to research Bush's and his Secretary
of the Interior, Gale Norton's record on environment protection as a whole (ie look at their attempts to repeal and weaken the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act) as well as their free market approach to OUR National lands (ie the ONLY value our National lands have are the money that they can generate). Good to see you Willi. I'm not going to defend Bush, Kerry or Barney on enviornmental issues. I just want people to research the facts from all sites, including the EPA, FS, BLM, and state health department issues. Take a look at the discharge and remediation laws associated with many sites that are so called un-friendly to the environment. |

Fly Rod & Reel magazine published an article on Bush's environmental
record by Ted Williams, the environmental writer, in an issue about six months ago. It's the issue with Stormin' Norman Schwartzkopf on the cover. The current issue of Fly Fisherman magazine has an article on Bush's environmental record by Ralph Cutter, who with his wife runs a fly fishing school in California. vince |
