![]() "Tim J." wrote both good points, you can be surrounded by idiots without being one, and it's possible, maybe necessary, to hide one's thoughts if business is at risk ( Warren would never shop there again if he knew who I'm talking about :-), but it surprised the hell out of me, at the time looks like I carted that damn soapbox around to little effect, I have to admit the post proved nothing |

![]() This is pretty unsettling news, just thought I would voice my opinion. This summer I asked a well known ( I'd like to say who, but don't have that permission... ) fly shop owner and very active conservationist in trout stream protection, "Besides sending a check to the right groups, what can I do, as an individual, to help protect this area's trout streams and ecology." Without hesitation the answer came, "Work to get Bush out of office." Well, if one person in a fly shop said it then it MUST be true. ;-) Perhaps he is talking about Craig Matthews and Blue Ribbon Flies? Craig is a great guy and has a terrific shop. I could probably go into 50 other shops in Montana and Idaho and find the same type of response. I can't blame most of these guys. They need to preserve the cold water fisheries for their shops to survive. They read op-ed pieces that indicate Bush is Satan and they take the info verbatim. Ask most shop owners about the history of the watersheds they support and most won't have a clue about the state of the fishery in the early 1900's. The fact that the fisheries are in better shape and continue to improve has little significance on their stance. Of course they might change their minds after Kerry taxes the **** out of him if he is elected. ![]() |

This is pretty unsettling news, just thought I would voice my opinion. HEY! We have enough of the regulars here stirring up this kind of political bull****, and we're running low on soapboxes. ;-) It does seem like the guy might be a troll but it also seems to me that a candidate's stance on the environment, especially as it pertains to fisheries, couldn't be more on topic for a fishing group. To the original poster. Do your homework on this issue. I've personally never seen so many waterways in the west in such fine shape. Oh wait. The drought has caused problems with many rivers, but that isn't a result of any current policies implemented by Bush. We should be excited, as a nation, that the riverways continue to improve every year. That is flat wrong. It depends, of course, on what waterways you've seen and for how long you've seen them. For example, the Bush administration fighting efforts to restore the salmon and steelhead runs in the Pacific Northwest. Their court-ordered draft federal salmon plan rewrite is a joke. Fortunately, it's getting lots of opposition from Congress, fishing communities, tribes, businesses, and the press. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

Eric Winkleman writes: Apparently Trout Unlimited says TU sux. So how is the mighty pirate these days? Long time no chat. ![]() Haven't heard from you either! Bush hasn't been the best from an environmental standpoint, but he hasn't been the worst. Bush is NOT a friend of our fisheries. To the original poster. Do your homework on this issue. I think you're the one that needs to research Bush's and his Secretary of the Interior, Gale Norton's record on environment protection as a whole (ie look at their attempts to repeal and weaken the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act) as well as their free market approach to OUR National lands (ie the ONLY value our National lands have are the money that they can generate). The biggest part of the improvement in our fisheries in my lifetime was do to the establishment of the Clean Water Act. Before it was instituted, the rivers and streams in Illinois where I grew up were literally sewers in many cases. Do some research on Bush's position on The Clean Water Act and what he's tried to do to weaken and/or repeal it. Willi |
