putty weight?

I was wondering if anyone uses putty weight?
Was thinking of going with split shots, but someone mentioned that I may
want to try putty weight.
Says he's never used it before, thought I better ask someone first before I
purchase.

I've used it, it works has stated but I've had problems with it
slipping down the leader or working off. When I know I'm going to need
weight I just as soon use split shots and use the putty to augment it.

I used it a few times in warm water and cold water fishing... ok in
warm water; in cold water, it slid or otherwise came loose from
leader/tippet.

Almost useless. I've tried putting on a tippet knot, but it usually slides
down to the fly. Figure out a way to keep it in place and it would be easy to
use.

Several things:
1. In cold weather or after immersion in cold water it hardens; in hot
weather it softens. So if you have a container of the stuff in your vest in
the summer, it will flow down and seal itself to the lid of the container.
You'll need a strong knife, screwdriver, or strong teeth to open it in cold
weather.
2. I still have some of it on the roof of my car from when I laid my rigged
rod on the roof while it was warm three years ago.
3. It's good to be able to use as much or as little as you want
4. I haven't had too many problems with it moving around on the line because
I usually form it into an oblong ball with lots of surface on the line.
