I know people who pay more than that EVERY YEAR! I want the government out of my life. So, you've notified your local fire department that they are never, under ANY circumstances, to enter onto your property? Just My .02 cents worth. Where shall we send the change? Wolfgang I was thinking primarily along the lines of the Patriot Act - along with Ashcroft (a worthless appointee). I work at the Boise Airport for the government (Homeland Security) as an engineer - I don't want to bite the hand that feeds me.... Sounds like you do. But you're afraid. Nevertheless, you did. And I'll bet a shiny new nickel that the Boise Fire Department is a governmental agency. And hey, how about that Socialist Security, huh? Wolfgang still holding that change. Well, I am not afraid as you put it. I like my freedoms. And infringing on my freedoms is not something I specifically cherish. Considering my statement that I want the government removed from my life - you and I both know that that is an impossibility in today's society. I made the statement not to be taken literally as you did. I worked for the gov for years. I do know the difference. Its just that I want them at arm's length. I do pay taxes for certain services and those, although are government entities, do not, in my opinion, have to have their every finger on my pulse so-to-speak. You surely get my drift. I think the Patriot Act is too far reaching. There are already laws on the books for most of the criminal and/or terrorist activities in the U.S. I don't share the abundance of paranoia that I see in the GOP. As far as Social Security is concerned, I think I could have done a lot better had I been able to invest those same monies in simple savings accounts. But I have to pay into it whether I like it or not. Each paycheck I receive has a noted deduction for the upkeep of that entitlement. It used to have it's own fund and account. But it was raided by Congress and put into the General Fund. So, I will collect "my share" someday, but until then, I guess I'll have to put up with the tax that it is. BTW - do you think GW will be giving us another tax refund - I could use another 600.00 dollar check just before Christmas! Philski |

And infringing on my freedoms is not something I specifically cherish. In that case, one might suggest that you refrain. Considering my statement that I want the government removed from my life - you and I both know that that is an impossibility in today's society. Au contraire, mon frere, you can always eat a bullet. I made the statement not to be taken literally as you did. One might suggest that you make statements as you mean them to be taken. I worked for the gov for years. My hero.......sigh. I do know the difference. Between what and which? Its just that I want them at arm's length. Just how far did you reach for that paycheck? I do pay taxes for certain services Well now, THERE'S an interesting concept. I vote we ALL give that a try. C'mon gang, whattya say? and those, although are government entities, do not, in my opinion, have to have their every finger on my pulse so-to-speak. You surely get my drift. Actually, no, let's try it again......in English this time.....o.k.? I think the Patriot Act is too far reaching. There are already laws on the books for most of the criminal and/or terrorist activities in the U.S. I don't share the abundance of paranoia that I see in the GOP. See, this is the part I hate.......just when you think you've got the species pegged, along comes this little flash of human rationality.......and ya gotta start all over again. O.k., I'm with ya.......go on. As far as Social Security is concerned, I think I could have done a lot better had I been able to invest those same monies in simple savings accounts. And, thus, you refuse to accept such ill-gotten gains, right? And in the meantime, crafty devil that you are, you actually DID put an equal amount into a simple savings account and thus you are able to retire early and live a life of liesure, right? But I have to pay into it whether I like it or not. That's a fact, Jack! Each paycheck I receive has a noted deduction for the upkeep of that entitlement. Another fact......and one that is a very ill kept secret It used to have it's own fund and account. But it was raided by Congress and put into the General Fund. So, I will collect "my share" someday, but until then, I guess I'll have to put up with the tax that it is. This is beginning to sound suspiciously like life as we know it. How horrible, how tragic, that YOU of all people should have to live it while the rest of us loll about in a soporific stupor, living off of.....um......well, whatever it is. BTW - do you think GW will be giving us another tax refund - I could use another 600.00 dollar check just before Christmas! Hell yes! Mortgage your grandchildren.......I don't give a ****......I don't have any. So, bottom line is that like so many others, you've been sucking on the taxpayers tit for virtually all of your adult life (at least) and you don't like government intruding on your proud, honorable, and self-sufficient life...........that about it? I know this is old, but: Social Security is a welfare program that Roosevelt dressed up as an "insurance program" to make it palatable to both payers and payees. And it was not "raided by Congress," it was Nixon that first began to comingle funds and every president since has followed suit. |
