I always thought the lightspeed was a good looking and smooth reel but always thought it was too thin and did not think the reels could holdup to prolonged dropping and banging without causing a slight bend in the frame or the reel spool. That is exactly what happened to my LS2. Dropped it on a rock and the spool bent and jammed. I was able to roughly straighten it with my fingers and it now rotates fine, with a just a little wobble. The main problem is the cone in the "sealed" drag system corroded badly after 2 years use in fresh water. It is now back for repair. I wont buy another one. |

A few weeks ago I fell, and slammed my LS2 into a rock. I was sure it was going to have a big dent in the spool or frame. The only damage I can see, is a few tiny burrs on the rim of the spool. That incident was probably the 3rd time this reel has met a rock, up close and personal. The only damage has been the marks from the last fall. I did have a problem with a sticky spool. A dab of lubricant(silicone floatant)on the shaft fixed it. I like my Lightspeed, but think they're ugly. ;-) brians |

Was that "sticky spool" not releasing? The drag works fine I just can't
change spools. They are pretty tough. I am far from gentle with my gear and let clients use it. I wish they still made the LP. I tried to get them to "find" a left over. I have the LP 1 and 2 and it has been awesome. They said that it had mechanical problems and as a result they discontinued it... "brians" wrote in message ... I just put a small dab of silicone on it, and it's been fine since. If I have one gripe about the LS....besides it's looks, it's the way the spool is held on to the reel. AFAICT, it's an interference fit of a o-ring that keeps the spool on. To get it off, you have to give it a pretty good yank. My guess is, the o-ring on your reel is dry, or squared off. Then again, I could be completely wrong....wouldn't be the first time. brians They are pretty tough. I am far from gentle with my gear and let clients use it. I wish they still made the LP. Just got off the phone with a service rep. She said that the drag is sealed
ONLY when the spool is on. Because I change spools and allow moisture to penetrate the seal before it is created, corrosion takes place and causes it to seize. She said that I need to dry the spindle in the field to prevent such a problem. As a guide, I find that difficult to do when the client's service is at stake... I think my next reel will be a Galvin...unless someone here has opinions on those... "brians" wrote in message ... al wrote: Was that "sticky spool" not releasing? I've been told that I shouldn't do this, but I pack the brake well with grease. That makes the spool come off easily and it's kept me from rust problems even though I'll change spools wet with sal****er. |
